A New Cembranoid from Tobacco, IV *
Abstract 4,8-Dimethyl-11-isopropyl-6,8-dihydroxy-pentadeca-4,9-dien-14-on-1-al (3) was identified as a new natural product from tobacco. 3 was isolated from the surface gum of fresh tobacco. The spectral data, chemical properties and the synthesis 3 are given.

Terpenoids from the Octocorals Menella sp. (Plexauridae) and Lobophytum crassum (Alcyonacea) [PDF]
A new germacrane-type sesquiterpenoid, menelloide E (1), and a new cembrane-type diterpenoid, lobocrassin F (2), were isolated from the octocorals Menella sp. and Lobophytum crassum, respectively.

The application of gem‐hydrogenation, which exploits the electrophilic character of the ruthenium carbene intermediates transiently formed, to natural product total synthesis allowed the stereostructure of a pair of diastereomeric seco‐cembranoids that are almost indistinguishable by NMR to be rigorously assigned.

Summary The mint family (Lamiaceae) is well documented as a rich source of terpene natural products. More than 200 diterpene skeletons have been reported from mints, but biosynthetic pathways are known for just a few of these. We crossreferenced chemotaxonomic data with publicly available transcriptomes to select common selfheal (Prunella vulgaris) and
