Materials science exploits only properties that are available at ambience. Therefore, although high-pressure changes the physical state of all condensed matter, most of the extraordinary properties discovered vanish after decompression and cannot be ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Pressure induced structural phase transition in solid oxidizer KClO$_3$: A first-principles study
High pressure behavior of potassium chlorate (KClO$_3$) has been investigated from 0-10 GPa by means of first principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

The Local Bubble and Interstellar Material Near the Sun [PDF]
The properties of interstellar matter (ISM) at the Sun are regulated by our location with respect to the Local Bubble (LB) void in the ISM. The LB is bounded by associations of massive stars and fossil supernovae that have disrupted natal ISM and driven ...

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Narrowing band gap chemically and physically: conductive dense hydrocarbon
Enhancing intermolecular interactions can reduce the band gap energy of organic molecules. Consequently, certain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons – typically wide-band-gap insulators – may undergo insulator-to-metal transitions under simple compression ...

Net Returns for Grain Sorghum and Corn under Alternative Irrigation Systems in Western Kansas [PDF]
This study evaluates seven irrigation systems for use in production of grain sorghum and corn. These systems are medium pressure center-pivot (MPCP), low pressure center-pivot (LPCP), low drift nozzle center-pivot (LDN) , low energy precision application

Contactless pellet fabrication [PDF]
A small object is coated by holding it in the pressure well of an acoustic standing wave pattern, and then applying a mist of liquid coating material at low velocity into the pressure well.
