The problem with cephalosporins [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2001
The cephalosporin antibiotics have become a major part of the antibiotic formulary for hospitals in affluent countries. They are prescribed for a wide variety of infections every day. Their undoubted popularity relies upon lesser allergenic and toxicity risks as well as a broad spectrum of activity.

Impact of Model‐Informed Drug Development on Drug Development Cycle Times and Clinical Trial Cost

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Model‐informed drug development (MIDD) integrates data to quantify benefit/risk informing objective drug discovery and development decisions. An additional critical benefit of MIDD is postulated to be improvement in trial and program efficiencies. While the application of MIDD has grown, there have been no clear examples across programs to demonstrate ...

New oil modified acrylic polymer for pH sensitive drug release: Experimental results and statistical analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We report results of an experimental study, complemented by detailed statistical analysis of the experimental data, on the development of a more effective control method of drug delivery using a pH sensitive acrylic polymer. New copolymers based on acrylic acid and fatty acid are constructed from dodecyl castor oil and a tercopolymer based on methyl ...

Clinical presentation, treatment, and outcome of 24 dogs with bacterial meningitis or meningoencephalitis without empyema (2010‐2020)

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 37, Issue 1, Page 223-229, January/February 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Bacterial meningitis (BM) and meningoencephalitis (BMEM) are associated with high case fatality rates and neurologic sequelae in people, but limited data exists on outcome in dogs. Hypothesis/Objectives To report the clinicopathologic features, treatment and outcome of BM/BMEM in dogs, with a focus on clinical presentation, relapse ...

Optimizing defence, counter-defence and counter-counter defence in parasitic and trophic interactions -- A modelling study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
In host-pathogen interactions, often the host (attacked organism) defends itself by some toxic compound and the parasite, in turn, responds by producing an enzyme that inactivates that compound. In some cases, the host can respond by producing an inhibitor of that enzyme, which can be considered as a counter-counter defence.

Sepsis and survival in critically ill calves: Risk factors and antimicrobial use

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 37, Issue 1, Page 374-389, January/February 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Sepsis is a life‐threatening disease for which critically important antimicrobials (CIA) frequently are used. Diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines for sepsis and critically ill calves are largely lacking. Objectives Identify factors associated with mortality in critically ill calves and describe bacteria obtained from blood ...

Inactivation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis l,d-Transpeptidase LdtMt1 by Carbapenems and Cephalosporins

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2012
The structure of Mycobacterium tuberculosis peptidoglycan is atypical since it contains a majority of 3→3 cross-links synthesized by l,d-transpeptidases that replace 4→3 cross-links formed by the d,d-transpeptidase activity of classical penicillin ...
