Systematics in the Cepheid and TRGB Distance Scales: Metallicity Sensitivity of the Wesenheit Leavitt Law

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Using an updated and significantly augmented sample of Cepheid and tip of the red giant branch (TRGB) distances to 28 nearby spiral and irregular galaxies, covering a wide range of metallicities, we have searched for evidence of a correlation of the zero-

Ureteroenteric strictures following retrosigmoid vs. conventional ileal conduit – The MOSAIC study (The DaBlaCa‐16 study)

open access: yesBJU International, Volume 136, Issue 5, Page 858-865, November 2025.
Objectives To evaluate the rate of left‐sided ureteroenteric strictures (UES) following robot‐assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with a retrosigmoid ileal conduit compared to a conventional ileal conduit in a randomised controlled trial (RCT). Patients and Methods This multicentre, RCT included 303 patients undergoing RARC between May 2020 and August ...

The Orbit and Mass of the Cepheid AW Per

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The Cepheid AW Per is a component in a multiple system with a long-period orbit. The radial velocities of Griffin cover the 38 yr orbit well. An extensive program of interferometry with the Center for High Angular Resolution Astronomy array is reported ...

Chicago–Carnegie Hubble Program: A Multiwavelength Search for the Effects of Metallicity on the Cepheid Distance Scale. I. Empirical Evidence

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Understanding the effects of metallicity on the multiwavelength properties of Cepheids is of continuing importance for their effective use as extragalactic distance indicators and an accurate measure of the Hubble constant, H _0 .

The detection of a companion star to the Cepheid variable Eta Aquilae

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1980
Ultraviolet spectra have been obtained with IUE of the classical Cepheid Eta Aquilae at several phases in the 7.18 day period. Significant ultraviolet emission is detected at wavelengths less than 1600 A, where little flux is expected from classical Cepheids.

OGLE-IV Period–Luminosity Relation of the LMC: An Analysis Using Mean and Median Magnitudes

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
The Period–Luminosity (PL) relation for Cepheid variable stars in the LMC is crucial for distance measurements in astronomy. This study analyzes the impact of using the median rather than the mean of the PL relation’s slope and zero-point.

Converging on the Cepheid Metallicity Dependence: Implications of Nonstandard Gaia Parallax Recalibration on Distance Measures

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
By comparing Cepheid brightnesses with geometric distance measures including Gaia EDR3 parallaxes, most recent analyses conclude metal-rich Cepheids are brighter, quantified as γ ∼ −0.2 mag dex ^−1 .

IS POLARIS LEAVING THE CEPHEID INSTABILITY STRIP?

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2017
Although Polaris is generally regarded as an overtone pulsator that may soon switch to pulsation in the fundamental mode, it is argued that the variable is actually crossing the instability strip for the first time and is in the process of leaving the ...

The MACHO Project LMC Variable Star Inventory: XII. Three Cepheid Variables in Eclipsing Binaries

open access: yes, 2002
We present a method for solving the lightcurve of an eclipsing binary system which contains a Cepheid variable as one of its components as well as the solutions for three eclipsing Cepheids in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). A geometric model is constructed in which the component stars are assumed to be spherical and on circular orbits.

Mining Sky Surveys for Astrophysically Interesting Variable Stars: The Cepheid Period Range

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2009
We have undertaken a project to discover new type II Cepheids in two large‐area sky surveys. However, most of the candidates from the surveys differ from type II Cepheids in their amplitude and period distributions and they form a separate, cooler sequence relative to the Cepheids in a temperature—gravity plot.
