Vacas, gallinas, cerdos y moluscos

Molecular Identification of Agrilus anxius (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) Using a qPCR Assay With Locked Nucleic Acid (LNA) Probe

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 149, Issue 5, Page 757-768, June 2025.
ABSTRACT In the present study, a biomolecular diagnostic assay based on qPCR‐LNA (Locked Nucleic Acid) probes was developed for the identification of Agrilus anxius (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) from adult insects. The performance of the new protocol was also evaluated for indirect diagnosis of the insect's presence on artificially contaminated frass.

Vulture Exclusion Halves Large Carcass Decomposition Rates and Doubles Fly Abundance

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2025.
We experimentally excluded vultures from pig carcasses (Sus scrofa) in Costa Rica, under different habitats and across seasons with the aim to assess the impact of vulture population decline on carrion decomposition and insect abundance. Vulture exclusion halved carcass decomposition rates and doubled fly abundance, while dung beetle abundance remained

Synergistic amelioration of obesity in high‐fat diet–fed mice by Bifidobacterium longum and green banana powder through targeting multiple pathways

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 6, Issue 1, Page 485-499, January 2025.
1. Obese mice treated with a combination of Bifidobacterium Longum SYP‐B4138 and green banana powder (BL_GBP) showed significant improvement in obesity syndrome. 2. The combined intervention surpassed the effects of BL or GBP alone, effectively restoring the natural intestinal balance in mice by promoting beneficial bacteria growth while suppressing ...

Closure of the neuro‐central synchondrosis and other physes in foal cervical spines

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 57, Issue 1, Page 217-231, January 2025.
Abstract Background The neuro‐central synchondrosis (NCS) is a physis responsible for the growth of the dorsal third of the vertebral body and neural arches. When the NCS of pigs is tethered to model scoliosis, stenosis also ensues. It is necessary to describe the NCS for future evaluation of its potential role in equine spinal cord compression and ...

Differences in the Loin Tenderness of Iberian Pigs Explained through Dissimilarities in Their Transcriptome Expression Profile

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
Tenderness is one of the most important meat quality traits and it can be measured through shear force with the Warner–Bratzler test. In the current study, we use the RNA-seq technique to analyze the transcriptome of Longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle in two ...
