Coexistent cerebral metastasis and cavernous malformation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 2003
We report the case of a 66 year old man with squamous cell carcinoma of the lung who presented with a seizure. On magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the contrast enhanced T1-weighted image showed a 2 cm lesion suggestive of a cavernous malformation (fig 1A). A gradient echo sequence revealed a solitary haemorrhagic focus (fig 1B).

Modeling the lung‒brain axis in critical illness: Multifactorial crosstalk through organoids and organ‐on‐a‐chip system

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Patients in intensive care units often experience lung injuries, complicated by brain problems. Advanced laboratory tools, organoids, and organs‐on‐chips facilitated the study of multiorgan interactions, help us understand the communication between the lungs and brain.

Trigeminal nerve and pathologies in magnetic resonance imaging : a pictorial review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A variety of conditions may affect the trigeminal nerve. Magnetic resonance imaging is the modality of choice when trigeminal nerve pathology is suspected, and this modality plays an essential role in detecting causes. This review illustrates some of the

Patient‐derived surgical samples reveal the cellular and molecular signatures of glioblastoma infiltration in distinct radiological zones

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Integrated histological and transcriptional profiling of the glioblastoma periphery reveals clinically relevant tumor infiltration beyond MRI‐defined boundaries. MRI‐guided biopsies from contrast‐enhancing (CE), non‐contrast‐enhancing (nCE), edema (E), and radiologically normal (N) regions demonstrate that nCE areas frequently retain neoplastic and ...

Two cases of ventral midbrain cavernous malformations successfully removed through orbitozygomatic interpeduncular approach

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Neurosurgery, 2016
Ventral midbrain cavernous malformations are rare, and annual bleeding rate is higher than supratentorial lesions. Rebleeding rate is also high if surgical resection is incomplete. The ventral midbrain is deeply located and surrounded by many perforators,

Angioneogenese in cerebralen Arteriovernösen Malformationen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Arteriovenöse Malformationen werden in der Literatur meistens als angeborene und statische Gefäßmissbildungen beschrieben. Neuere Arbeiten und Erkenntnisse legen jedoch eine dynamische Biologie dieser Malformationen nahe.

Proteolytic remodelling of the extracellular matrix by pericytes

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Pericytes are specialised perivascular cells intimately connected with endothelial cells and essential for the maintenance of vascular beds. They contribute to the formation and remodelling of the extracellular matrix by actively secreting proteases and protease inhibitors.

Molecular diagnosis in cerebral cavernous malformations

open access: yesNeurología (English Edition), 2017
Introduction: Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs; OMIM 116860) are enlarged vascular cavities without intervening brain parenchyma whose estimated prevalence in the general population is between 0.1% and 0.5%.
