RAMPs and CGRP Receptors

2012
Receptor activity modifying protein 1 (RAMP1) forms a complex with calcitonin receptor-like receptor (CLR) to produce the receptor for calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). RAMP1 has two main roles. It facilitates the cell-surface expression of CLR. It is also essential for the binding of CGRP to the receptor.

CGRP antagonist activity of short fragments of human αCGRP, CGRP(23–37) and CGRP(19–37)

Peptides, 1992
The activity of short C-terminal fragments of human alpha calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), CGRP(19-37), and CGRP(23-37), and of the N-terminally acetylated (Ac) derivative, AcCGRP(19-37), has been investigated in the guinea pig isolated left atria (electrically driven) for their ability to antagonize the positive inotropic effect of human alpha ...

CGRP

Neurology, 2011
Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a vasodilator neuropeptide that is expressed in a subgroup of small neurons in the dorsal root ganglion (DRG), trigeminal, and vagal ganglia, which respond to noxious, thermal, or visceral input. These peptidergic neurons use l-glutamate as their primary neurotransmitter and project to the dorsal horn ...

CGRP receptor antagonists (gepants)

Small molecule calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonists are commonly referred to as gepants. The first generation of gepants provided the first line of evidence of CGRP-mediated antimigraine medication in 2004-2011. However, further development was halted due to either lack of oral availability or concerns of hepatotoxicity.

CGRP Receptor Signalling Pathways

2018
Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a promiscuous peptide, similar to many other members of the calcitonin family of peptides. The potential of CGRP to act on many different receptors with differing affinities and efficacies makes deciphering the signalling from the CGRP receptor a challenging task for researchers.Although it is not a typical G ...

CGRP antagonist activity of short C-terminal fragments of human alpha CGRP, CGRP(23-37) and CGRP(19-37).

Peptides, 1993
The activity of short C-terminal fragments of human alpha calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), CGRP(19-37), and CGRP(23-37), and of the N-terminally acetylated (Ac) derivative, AcCGRP(19-37), has been investigated in the guinea pig isolated left atria (electrically driven) for their ability to antagonize the positive inotropic effect of human alpha ...

CGRP monoclonal antibodies and CGRP receptor antagonists (Gepants) in migraine prevention

Migraine is a prevalent and disabling neurological disease. Its preventive treatment for decades has been rather limited due to the absence of disease-specific therapies with limited efficacy and tolerability. The advances made in migraine research have led to the discovery of the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and its role in migraine ...

CGRP Receptor Antagonists

Headache Currents, 2004
Calcitonin Gene‐Related Peptide Receptor Antagonist BIBN 4096 BS for the Acute Treatment of Migraine BACKGROUND: Calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP) may have a causative role in migraine. We therefore hypothesized that a CGRP‐receptor antagonist might be effective in the treatment of migraine attacks.
