Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Chain-based lattice printing for efficient robotically-assembled structures
Due to the nature of their implementation, nearly all low-level fabrication processes produce solidly filled structures. However, lattice structures are significantly stronger for the same amount of material, resulting in structures that are much lighter

The four known biplanes with k=11
The four known biplanes of order 9(k=11) are described in terms of their ovals, λ-chain structures, and automorphism groups. An exhaustive computer search for all biplanes of order 9 with certain chain structures has produced but two, one of which is new.

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

We experimentally investigate cluster structures formed by paramagnetic particles in a thin magnetorheological (MR) fluid layer, the thickness of which normalized by the particle diameter ranges from 3.8 to 31, under a dc magnetic field perpendicular to ...

Ground states with cluster structures in a frustrated Heisenberg chain
We examine the ground state of a Heisenberg model with arbitrary spin S on a one-dimensional lattice composed of diamond-shaped units. A unit includes two types of antiferromagnetic exchange interactions which frustrate each other.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A direct slicing method for optimized lattice structures
Previous research show that conventional CAD B-Rep methods are highly inefficient to design large lattice structures composed of several thousands of geometric primitives describing struts [2,3]. This paper aims at proposing a method for slicing directly
