PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Age-structured model of hematopoiesis dynamics with growth factor-dependent coefficients

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2016
We propose and analyze an age-structured partial differential model for hematopoietic stem cell dynamics, in which proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis are regulated by growth factor concentrations.

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

A Characteristic Equation for Non-autonomous Partial Functional Differential Equations

open access: yes, 2002
We characterize the exponential dichotomy of non-autonomous partial functional differential equations by means of a spectral condition extending known characteristic equations for the autonomous or time-periodic case.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

The Riccati Characteristic Equation

open access: yes
The Riccati differential equation is examined in light of its connection to second order linear time varying systems. In that light it becomes the clear generalization for the characteristic equation of linear time invariant systems, and is called the Riccati Characteristic Equation (RCE).

Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Characteristic Mode Analysis of Nanostructures using Hydrodynamic Volume Integral Equation

open access: yes
The characteristic mode analysis (CMA) is formulated and implemented for the hydrodynamic volume integral equation (HDVIE) that is used to mathematically model electromagnetic field interactions and conduction current dynamics on nanoantennas and ...
