CHARACTERISTIC METHOD FOR SOLVING FILTRATION PROBLEM
During construction, a liquid solution of a grout or waterproof filler is pumped into porous rock to improve its properties. The filtration of a suspension moving at a variable speed in a porous medium is simulated.

On Schubert’s Problem of Characteristics [PDF]
The Schubert varieties on a flag manifold G/P give rise to a cell decomposition on G/P whose Kronecker duals, known as the Schubert classes on G/P, form an additive base of the integral cohomology of G/P. The Schubert's problem of characteristics asks to express a monomial in the Schubert classes as a linear combination in the Schubert basis.

Characteristic Based Split Finite Element for Unsteady Dam-Break Problem [PDF]
In this paper, an efficient numerical model for solution of the two-dimensional unsteady dam-break problem is described. The model solves the shallow water equations through Characteristic-Based Split (CBS) finite element method.

Dirichlet problem for mixed type equation with characteristic degeneration
For a mixed elliptic-hyperbolic type equation with characteristic degeneration, the first boundary value problem in a rectangular region is investigated. The criterion for the uniqueness of the solution of the problem is established.

Characteristic Min-Polynomial and Eigen Problem of a Matrix over Min-Plus Algebra
Let R_ε=R∪{-∞}, with R being a set of all real numbers. The algebraic structure (R_ε,⊕,⊗) is called max-plus algebra. The task of finding the eigenvalue and eigenvector is called the eigenproblem.

We consider the well-posed characteristic problem for the system of the general hyperbolic differential equations of the third order with nonmultiple characteristics. The solution of this problem is constructed in an explicit form.

Characteristics of Complex Problems
Many of the social challenges we care about feel like messy, wicked knots (or a pile of tangled headphones). When we pull on a thread in one place, we create new, tighter knots elsewhere. The messy nature of these challenges is due to, among other things, their complexity.
