Charge-exchange cross sections in Be4+ + H(1s) collisions are calculated using the three-body classical trajectory Monte Carlo method (CTMC) and the quasi-classical trajectory Monte Carlo method of Kirschbaum and Wilets (QCTMC) for impact energies ...

The magnetosheath at high spectral resolution
While we eagerly anticipate SMILE’s (Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer) unprecedented X-ray observations of the Earth’s magnetosheath and the initiation of a new era of magnetospheric research, it seems appropriate to look ahead to the ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Charge exchange in ion-atom collusions relevant to fusion plasma diagnostics [PDF]
Total charge exchange and excitation cross-sections are presented for collisions between He(^2+) ions and helium atoms, the laboratory frame collision energy being in the range 16-800keV.

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Exchange-biasing topological charges by antiferromagnetism [PDF]
AbstractGeometric Hall effect is induced by the emergent gauge field experienced by the carriers adiabatically passing through certain real-space topological spin textures, which is a probe to non-trivial spin textures, such as magnetic skyrmions. We report experimental indications of spin-texture topological charges induced in heterostructures of a ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Line-Emission Cross Sections for the Charge-exchange Reaction between Fully Stripped Carbon and Atomic Hydrogen in Tokamak Plasma [PDF]
Line-emission cross sections of the charge-exchange reaction between fully stripped carbon and atomic hydrogen are measured in the energy range of 18-38 keV/amu in tokamak plasmas.
