Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of cardiac toxicity induced by immune checkpoint inhibitors and BRAF and MEK inhibitors. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and BRAF and MEK inhibitors (BRAFi/MEKi) have drastically improved the outcome of melanoma patients. ICIs can induce myocarditis, a rare immune related adverse event (irAE) with an estimated lethality of 50%.

Research progress of targeted therapy combined with immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2023
Hepatocellular carcinoma is a common gastrointestinal malignancy with a high mortality rate and limited treatment options. Molecularly targeted drugs combined with immune checkpoint inhibitors have shown unique advantages over single-agent applications ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

On the regulation of chromosome segregation in human cells : implications of Bub1 Kinase inhibition during cell division [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The maintenance of correct chromosome number (euploidy) during cell division is essential for health. Loss of euploidy is observed in most cancers and is linked to tumorigenesis.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Toxicities [PDF]

open access: yesMayo Clinic Proceedings, 2019
Immune checkpoint inhibitors are molecules that increase the endogenous immune response against tumors. They have revolutionized the field of oncology. Since their initial approval for the treatment of advanced melanoma, their use has expanded to the treatment of several other advanced cancers. Unfortunately, immune checkpoint inhibitors have also been

Prospects of application of inhibitors of PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoints in malignant tumors of the stomach and esophagogastric junction

open access: yesМедицинский совет, 2020
Malignant tumors of the stomach and esophagogastric junction in advanced stages progress quite aggressively, and the prospects for treatment of these patients remain unpromising.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Characterization of mitotic checkpoint complexes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In eukaryotes, chromosome segregation critically depends on the establishment of productive contacts between kinetochores (KTs), specialized chromosomal structures, and the spindle microtubules (MTs).
