A Mussel‐Inspired Bioadhesive Patch to Selectively Kill Glioblastoma Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An innovative mussel‐inspired bioadhesive patch has been developed for post‐surgical glioblastoma treatment. The patch, which adheres strongly in biological environments, releases a localized treatment. This treatment, acting via reactive oxygen species, shows specific toxicity to glioblastoma cells.

Pattern dystrophies in patients treated with deferoxamine: report of two cases and review of the literature

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2018
Background Deferoxamine (DFO) is one of the most commonly used chelation treatments for transfusional hemosiderosis. Pattern dystrophies constitute a distinct entity of retinal disorders that has been occasionally identified in association with ...

Inhibition of SLC11A1‐Mediated Lysosomal Iron Accumulation in Microglia Promotes Repair Following White Matter Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Genetic and pharmacological inhibition of SLC11A1 functioning as an H+/Fe2+ antiporter–mediated lysosomal iron accumulation in microglia promotes lysosomal lumen acidification, increases CTSD expression, enhances lysosomal myelin debris uptake and degradation, and promotes repair following white matter stroke. ABSTRACT White matter stroke (WMS) results

Unveiling Extramedullary Hematopoiesis: A Case Report Highlighting the Causes, Symptoms, and Management Strategies

open access: yesThalassemia Reports
Extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH) serves as a compensatory mechanism in chronic hemolytic anemias, such as thalassemia, and can result in spinal cord compression.

Durable Red Blood Cell Transfusion Independence in a Patient with an MDS/MPN Overlap Syndrome Following Discontinuation of Iron Chelation Therapy

open access: yesCase Reports in Hematology, 2015
Background. Hematologic improvement (HI) occurs in some patients with acquired anemias and transfusional iron overload receiving iron chelation therapy (ICT) but there is little information on transfusion status after stopping chelation. Case Report.

Beyond Catalytic Therapy: Copper‐Paeonol Nanozymes Disrupt Fascin‐Mediated Actin Bundling to Suppress Tumor Growth and Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Copper‐paeonol nanozymes target tumor‐specific reactive oxygen species generation and disrupt fascin‐mediated actin bundling, effectively suppressing tumor growth and metastatic colonization. Abstract Fascin, an actin‐bundling protein universally upregulated in metastatic tumors, drives tumor migration and invasion by promoting filopodia and ...

Iron overload and chelation therapy in hemoglobinopathies

open access: yesThalassemia Reports, 2018
Iron overload (IOL) is highly prevalent among patients with hemoglobinopathies; both transfusion dependent thalassemia (TDT) and non-transfusion dependent thalassemia (NTDT).

Engineering Osteoimmune Responses with Functionalized Orthopedic Implants for Post‐Operative Osteosarcoma Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor with limited treatment options and a terrible prognosis. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the recent development of osteoimmunomodulatory implants for post‐operative osteosarcoma treatment, of which the potential utility in evoking durable anti‐osteosarcoma immunity and accelerating bone
