Fuzzy model based predictive control of chemical processes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The past few years have witnessed a rapid growth in the use of fuzzy logic controllers for the control of processes which are complex and ill-defined. These control systems, inspired by the approximate reasoning capabilities of humans under conditions

Chemical weed control in peppers

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1970
WEEDS ARE A PROBLEM in both direct seeded and transplanted bell and chili peppers in California. Cool weather during the early planting season results in slow emergence of direct-seeded pepper seedlings.

Effects of radio frequency heating inactivation on foodborne pathogens in model foods varying in structural matrix complexity

open access: yesScientific Reports
Radio Frequency (RF) heating is a promising alternative for conventional heating to inactivate pathogens during food processing, but a knowledge gap exists concerning RF effects on bacteria in relation to different food microstructural aspects.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

HOSM State Estimation and Robust PID Control of a Chemical Process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper presents some results of the authors’ studies on robust estimation and control for chemical processes. Here, an observer-based controller is designed for a chemical process.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Wind erosion control with chemical sprays

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1963
Soil stabilization for wind erosion control is now possible by using chemical sprays. More tests are needed to determine the optimum dilution and application rates but the amount of spray to apply depends basically upon whether the stabilized surface ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
