Microplastics Pollution in Chile: Current Situation and Future Prospects

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2021
Millions of tons of plastics enter wild habitats, especially the oceans, every year. Despite extensive efforts, this amount is predicted to increase over in the near future, leading to a catastrophic damage to the environment.

Chemical potential of quasi-equilibrium magnon gas driven by pure spin current [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We show experimentally that the spin current generated by the spin Hall effect drives the magnon gas in a ferromagnet into a quasi-equilibrium state that can be described by the Bose-Einstein statistics.

Unrecognized Health Effects of Chemicals [PDF]

open access: yesAAOHN Journal, 2010
Worker populations continue to be at risk for exposure to chemicals, many of which are toxic, while completing work tasks. Although some of the health effects of chemicals are known, many have not yet been identified or recognized. Chemical products used during industrial work processes require thorough evaluation, testing, and long-term monitoring ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Evaluation of Chemical Constituents of Litchi Pericarp Extracts and Its Antioxidant Activity in Mice

open access: yesFoods, 2022
Litchi pericarp is the main byproduct of litchi processing and contains several polyphenols. However, the chemical constituents and the antioxidant effect in litchi pericarp extracts (LPE) have been rarely studied. The result of the quantitative analyses

Effect of inverse magnetic catalysis on conserved charge fluctuations in hadron resonance gas model

open access: yes, 2019
The effect of inverse magnetic catalysis (IMC) has been observed on the conserved charge fluctuations and the correlations along the chemical freeze-out curve in a hadron resonance gas model.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Frequency-Range-Specific Hand–Arm Vibration Exposure and the Risk of Musculoskeletal Disorders of the Upper Extremities: The German Hand–Arm Vibration Study

open access: yesVibration
To quantify the effect of frequency-range-specific hand–arm vibration (FRS-HAV) exposure on the risk of musculoskeletal disorders of the upper limb (UMSDs), we performed an analysis among the study sample of the German Hand–Arm Vibration Study. In total,

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
