Remarks on the reweighting method in the chemical potential direction

open access: yes, 2002
We comment on the reweighting method in the chemical potential $(\mu_{\rm q})$ direction. We study the fluctuation of the reweighting factor during Monte-Carlo steps. We find that it is the absolute value of the reweighting factor that mainly contributes

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

How can ultrasonic scouring of sheep’s wool chemically modify its surface?

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry
Ultrasonic wool scouring has the potential to replace the traditional method using detergents and other additives. This study aims to investigate the effect of important parameters of an ultrasonic bath operating at 38 kHz frequency on the possible ...

Developing new chemical–rheological models and chemical–durability indices of bitumen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Significant correlation among chemical properties, rheological characteristics and durability of bitumen is very important in evaluating and modifying bitumen. However, a number of previous studies found inconsistent correlation.

Quark-Antiquark Condensates in the Hadronic Phase

open access: yes, 2005
We use a hadron resonance gas model to calculate the quark-antiquark condensates for light (up and down) and strange quark flavors at finite temperatures and chemical potentials.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Explainable artificial intelligence-driven model for ultrafine particle (PM0.1) prediction and explanation using meteorological variables

open access: yesEnvironmental Challenges
PM0.1, an ultrafine urban air pollutant, poses significant health risks due to its ability to penetrate deep into the lungs, enter the bloodstream, and rapidly circulate throughout the human body, potentially causing severe respiratory diseases ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Homogenization results for chemical reactive flows through porous media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This paper deals with the homogenization of a nonlinear problem mod-elllng chemica! reactive flows through periodically perforated domains. The chemical reactions take place on the walls of the porous médium.
