Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Natural process – Natural selection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Life is supported by a myriad of chemical reactions. To describe the overall process we have formulated entropy for an open system undergoing chemical reactions.

Quantum Zeno Effect Explains Magnetic-Sensitive Radical-Ion-Pair Reactions

open access: yes, 2009
Chemical reactions involving radical-ion pairs are ubiquitous in biology, since not only are they at the basis of the photosynthetic reaction chain, but are also assumed to underlie the biochemical magnetic compass used by avian species for navigation ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

GDNF‐RET signaling drives pulmonary neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia and allergic airway inflammation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A neuroimmune interaction centered on the PNEC‐ILC2 axis in an asthma model. PNEC‐derived CGRP activates nearby ILC2s, which then release cytokines, including IL‐5 and IL‐13. These cytokines promote eosinophil and macrophage infiltration. Subsequently, GDNF produced by these cells induces PNEC hyperplasia via the GDNF receptors, RET and GFRα1 ...

Graphene‐Based Phthalocyanine‐Assembled Synergistic Fe‐Co‐Ni Trimetallic Single‐Atomic Bifunctional Electrocatalysts by Rational Design for Boosting Oxygen Reduction/Evolution Reactions

open access: yesCarbon Energy
Development of high‐efficiency bifunctional oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is vital for the widespread application of zinc–air batteries (ZABs).

Reaction Decoder Tool (RDT): extracting features from chemical reactions

open access: yesBioinform., 2016
Summary: Extracting chemical features like Atom–Atom Mapping (AAM), Bond Changes (BCs) and Reaction Centres from biochemical reactions helps us understand the chemical composition of enzymatic reactions.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...
