Strengthening STD Screening Programs: Comprehensive Evaluation of High-Throughput Immunoassays for HIV and Syphilis Detection

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Fourth-generation immunoassays are widely used for HIV and syphilis screening; however, false-reactive results may increase confirmatory testing and operational burden in high-throughput laboratories.

Rapid and Efficient Affinity Isolation of Engineered Extracellular Vesicles Encapsulating Functional Proteins via Internal Twin‐Strep Tetraspanin Tagging

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Structure‐guided internal twin‐Strep tagging of the tetraspanins CD63 or CD9 enables rapid and efficient antibody‐free affinity isolation of engineered extracellular vesicles (EVs) using Strep technology while allowing luminal protein loading. The approach removes over 96% of contaminants, separates tagged EVs from coexisting viral particles, and ...

Engineering Carbon Nanotube Quantum Well Defects With Recognition Tripeptides for Optical Detection of Extracellular Vesicles in Plasma

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A three‐residue peptide bioconjugated onto a carbon nanotube quantum defect turns the near‐infrared emission of quantum defects into a reporter of integrins on intact extracellular vesicles, directly in human plasma. The sensor reveals that healthy fibroblast vesicles carry as much RGD‐binding integrin as cancer‐derived ones, an adhesion‐associated ...

Synergistic Toxicity of Low‐Concentration Metal Mixture on Male Rats: Reproductive, Renal, and Hepatic Effects

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mining plays a crucial role in economic development, but improper management can lead to severe environmental degradation. Particularly for iron ore, mining generates vast amounts of tailings often stored in unstable dams. This study aims to investigate the toxicological impacts of environmentally relevant concentrations of metals mixture ...

Deficiency of high‐molecular‐weight von Willebrand factor mitigates thrombo‐complement injury in an LPS‐induced TMA‐like mouse model

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Reduction of high‐molecular‐weight von Willebrand factor disrupts the platelet–complement amplification loop, attenuating microvascular thrombosis, complement deposition, endothelial injury, and organ damage in complement‐mediated thrombotic microangiopathy.

Improving tumor marker comparability: A case series on harmonizing carbohydrate antigen 19‐9 and carbohydrate antigen 15‐3 measurements across diverse measurement systems

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
CA19‐9 and CA15‐3 measurements from seven contemporary immunoassay systems were compared using 464 and 499 native serum samples, respectively. Inter‐system correlations were higher for CA15‐3 than for CA19‐9, and only a limited number of systems met biological variation‐derived bias criteria.

Development of chemiluminescent methods for explosives detection

open access: yes, 2009
The present work was finalised to develop chemiluminescent assays more sensitive and easy to use than the analytical methods currently in use to detect traces of TNT (2,4,6-trinitrotoluene), TATP (Triacetone triperoxide) and HMTD (Hexamethylene ...
