Schematic of membrane-mediated interactions between chemoreceptor trimers.

open access: yes, 2014
(A) If the hydrophobic thickness of the unperturbed lipid monolayer, , does not match the hydrophobic thickness of chemoreceptor trimers, , the lipid bilayer locally deforms in the vicinity of chemoreceptor trimers, yielding membrane-mediated ...

Commercial permethrin elicits chemoreceptive responses on different Anopheles gambiae sensory appendages

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes exhibit takeoff responses when presented to commercial permethrin headspace. This product elicits electrophysiological activity in the antennae and tarsi. However, only the chemical information acquired from the tarsi plays a major role in the observed behavioral response.

Criteria for central respiratory chemoreceptors: experimental evidence supporting current candidate cell groups

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2023
An interoceptive homeostatic system monitors levels of CO2/H+ and provides a proportionate drive to respiratory control networks that adjust lung ventilation to maintain physiologically appropriate levels of CO2 and rapidly regulate tissue acid-base ...

Age‐related population level decoupling of obstructive sleep apnea severity from body mass index: Insights from over 40,000 patients across the adult lifespan

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Study Objectives Obesity is a major determinant of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) severity, but its influence may vary across adulthood. We examined age‐related patterns of body mass index (BMI), apnea–hypopnea index (AHI), and hypoxemic burden, and assessed whether the association between BMI and OSA severity attenuates with age.

Chemosensation and Evolution of Drosophila Host Plant Selection

open access: yesiScience, 2020
The ability to respond to chemosensory cues is critical for survival of most organisms. Among insects, Drosophila melanogaster has the best characterized olfactory system, and the availability of genome sequences of 30 Drosophila species provides an ...

Localization of E. coli Chemoreceptor Arrays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The bacterial chemotaxis system, a ubiquitous signaling network found in most bacteria, is comprised at its core of a large chemoreceptor cluster found specifically at the cell pole.

General redox environment and carotid body chemoreceptor function

open access: yes, 2013
Carotid body (CB) chemoreceptor cells detect physiological levels of hypoxia and generate a hyperventilation, homeostatic in nature, aimed to minimize the deleterious effects of hypoxia.

Research Progress on Upper Airway Cough Syndrome

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Upper airway cough syndrome (UACS) has been identified as a significant contributor to chronic cough in various national guidelines. However, the complexity of its pathogenesis, the lack of clarity surrounding its diagnostic criteria, and its overlap with other etiologies of chronic cough present considerable challenges in both diagnosis and ...
