Origin of life: β‐sheet amyloid conformers as the primordial functional polymers on the early Earth and their role in the emergence of complex dynamic networks

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The amyloid world hypothesis of the origin‐of‐life posits that the first functional polymers on the early Earth were structurally stable cross‐β‐sheet‐based peptide amyloids capable of Darwinian‐like evolution. Peptide amyloids display self‐replication and information transfer, as well as catalytic, adaptive, and evolutive properties.

Changes in body composition and meat quality in response to dietary amino acid provision in finishing broilers

open access: yesAnimal, 2019
In order to control and optimize chicken quality products, it is necessary to improve the description of the responses to dietary amino acid (AA) concentration in terms of carcass composition and meat quality, especially during the finishing period.

The anabolic steroid stanozolol is a potent inhibitor of human MutT homolog 1

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MutT homolog 1 (MTH1) is a member of the NUDIX superfamily of enzymes and is an anticancer drug target. We show that stanozolol (Stz), an anabolic steroid, is an unexpected nanomolar inhibitor of MTH1. The X‐ray crystal structure of the human MTH1–Stz complex reveals a unique binding scaffold that could be utilized for future inhibitor development ...

Dietary essential oils improve feed efficiency and hepatic antioxidant content of broiler chickens

open access: yesAnimal, 2019
The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis of an improved growth, dietary nutrient availability and overall health of broiler chickens reared on recycled litter when fed a standardised combination of essential oils (EO; carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde ...

Effect of a specific combination of carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde, and Capsicum oleoresin on the growth performance, carcass quality and gut integrity of broiler chickens [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2014
Aim: The effect of a specific combination (SC) of carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde, and Capsicum oleoresin was investigated on productive performance and immune response in broiler chickens.

Copper/Zinc-Modified Palygorskite Protects Against Salmonella Typhimurium Infection and Modulates the Intestinal Microbiota in Chickens

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Palygorskite (Pal), a clay nanoparticle, has been demonstrated to be a vehicle for drug delivery. Copper has antibacterial properties, and zinc is an essential micronutrient for intestinal health in animals and humans.

Cloning in Chickens

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1971
Abstract Briggs and King (1952) perfected a method for transferring nuclei of embryonic cells into enucleated eggs of the frog. Gurdon (1960) described a method by which he obtained many genetically identical frogs by the direct and serial transplantation of the nuclei of dissociated endoderm cells to the enucleated eggs of a single female. The cells

C‐mannosylation promotes ADAMTS1 activation and secretion in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
C‐mannosylation is a unique form of protein glycosylation. In this study, we demonstrated that ADAMTS1 is C‐mannosylated at Trp562 and Trp565 in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells. We found that C‐mannosylation of ADAMTS1 is essential for its secretion, processing, enzymatic activity, and ability to promote vasculogenic mimicry. These findings

The long-crowing chickens in Indonesia: A review

open access: yesOpen Agriculture, 2023
All birds produce vocalizations as a form of tcommunication with other individuals. Different from songbirds, crowing is a singing vocalization produced by chickens that cannot be learned through imitation.
