Large-scale outbreak of Chikungunya virus infection in Thailand, 2018-2019.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Between 2018 and 2019, the incidence of chikungunya was approximately 15,000 cases across 60 provinces in Thailand. Here, the clinical presentations in chikungunya, emergent pattern, and genomic diversity of the chikungunya virus (CHIKV) causing this ...

Attenuation and Stability of CHIKV-NoLS, a Live-Attenuated Chikungunya Virus Vaccine Candidate [PDF]

open access: yesVaccines, 2018
Our previous investigation of the nucleolar localisation sequence (NoLS) of chikungunya virus (CHIKV) capsid protein demonstrated the role of capsid in CHIKV virulence. Mutating the NoLS of capsid in CHIKV led to the development of a unique live-attenuated CHIKV vaccine candidate, termed CHIKV-NoLS.

Persistent Cervical Infection with the Chikungunya Virus [PDF]

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical
Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) induces an acute infection known as chikungunya fever; however, the persistence of CHIKV infections has been reported. This report investigated the persistence of CHIKV over six months in the cervix of two infected women.

Unbiased Metagenomic Sequencing for Pediatric Meningitis in Bangladesh Reveals Neuroinvasive Chikungunya Virus Outbreak and Other Unrealized Pathogens. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The burden of meningitis in low-and-middle-income countries remains significant, but the infectious causes remain largely unknown, impeding institution of evidence-based treatment and prevention decisions.

Challenges in Surveillance for Chikungunya Virus (CHIKV) Infection

open access: yesOnline Journal of Public Health Informatics, 2015
We describe challenges and lessons learned using biosurveillance methods for identifying Chikungunya (CHIKV) infections. Surveillance was performed using VA ESSENCE, electronic laboratory data and facility reports. As of Aug. 14, 2014, 21 confirmed/probable cases were identified at 10 hospitals.

Low chikungunya virus seroprevalence two years after emergence in Fiji

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2020
Objectives: In Fiji, autochthonous chikungunya virus (CHIKV) infection was first detected in March 2015. In a previous serosurvey conducted during October–November 2015, we reported a prevalence of anti-CHIKV IgG antibodies of 0.9%. In the present study,

Symptomatic Chikungunya Virus Infection and Pregnancy Outcomes: A Nested Case-Control Study in French Guiana

open access: yesViruses, 2022
During the Chikungunya epidemic in the Caribbean and Latin America, pregnant women were affected by the virus in French Guiana. The question of the impact of the virus on pregnancy was raised because of the lack of scientific consensus and published data

Recent Progress in Vaccine Development Against Chikungunya Virus

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Chikungunya fever (CHIKF) is an acute infectious disease that is mediated by the mosquito-transmitted chikungunya virus (CHIKV). People infected with CHIKV may experience high fever, severe joint pain, skin rash, and headache.

A human genome-wide loss-of-function screen identifies effective chikungunya antiviral drugs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is a globally spreading alphavirus against which there is no commercially available vaccine or therapy. Here we use a genome-wide siRNA screen to identify 156 proviral and 41 antiviral host factors affecting CHIKV replication ...
