Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Parental Reports on Late Effects and Follow-Up Needs: A Single-Center Assessment of Childhood Cancer Survivorship Care in Kenya

open access: yesCurrent Oncology
The WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer will likely increase the number of childhood cancer survivors in resource-poor countries. This study explored survivorship care in Kenya through parental reports on late effects and the follow-up needs of ...

Educational attainment of childhood cancer survivors: A systematic review

open access: yesCancer Medicine, 2019
Background Advances in treatment mean that most children diagnosed with cancer during childhood survive. Therefore, it is increasingly important to examine the long‐term consequences of childhood cancer, including educational attainment.

Discordance Between Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index Domain Weights and Their Association With Organ Damage Accrual

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Studies of damage accrual in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) show associations with disease activity measured by the SLE Disease Activity Index 2000 (SLEDAI‐2K), but these associations are imperfect. SLEDAI scores are powerfully influenced by weightings (1–8) assigned to each domain.

Multidimensional Cellular Micro‐Compartments to Model Invasive Lobular Carcinoma Dormancy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) is an understudied subtype of breast cancer that is susceptible to late recurrences. In this study, micro‐compartmentalization techniques spanning multiple dimensions, including 2D, pseudo‐3D, and 3D, are integrated to uncover the mechanisms underlying ILC dormancy, revealing the central role of p27Kip1.

Spontaneous Helical Alignment of Smooth Muscle Cells to Form a Medial Layer for Engineered Microvasculature

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Spontaneous helical alignment of smooth muscle cells is induced within resistance‐vessel‐sized channels patterned within a hydrogel. The extent of the cells’ orientation angle is dependent on the presence and composition of ECM proteins lining the channel wall and cell seeding density.

Early Nutrition and Physical Activity Interventions in Childhood Cancer Survivors

open access: yesCurrent Obesity Reports, 2017
Purpose of ReviewChildhood cancer survivors experience excessive weight gain early in treatment. Lifestyle interventions need to be initiated early in cancer care to prevent the early onset of obesity and cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Chromosomal Instability Drives Glioblastoma Heterogeneity and Therapeutic Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Glioblastoma, the most aggressive and lethal form of brain cancer, is defined by profound genomic instability, with Chromosomal Instability (CIN) playing a central role in driving tumor progression, therapy resistance, and poor prognosis. CIN is characterized by numerical and structural alterations, is driven by mechanisms such as mitotic ...

Risk of severe esophageal stricture among childhood cancer survivors – A population-based case-cohort study within the Adult Life after Childhood Cancer in Scandinavia (ALiCCS)

open access: yesEJC Paediatric Oncology
Purpose: Due to limited data on treatment-related risk factors associated with esophageal stricture in childhood cancer survivors, this study aimed to assess such factors in long-term survivors.
