Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Mechanism of Chip Formation Process at Grinding [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2019
The mechanism of chip formation process at grinding is described, which involves a high-speed interaction of abrasive grain and metal, which leads to a concentration of thermal energy in front of the dispersing element (grain), causing a locally ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Simulation of Drilling Process for Control of Burr Formation

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2010
An analytical force model is presented to simulate the cutting force and the chip flow direction in the drilling process. Three dimensional chip flow is interpreted as a piling up of the orthogonal cuttings in the planes containing the cutting velocities

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Droplet-based digital antibiotic susceptibility screen reveals single-cell clonal heteroresistance in an isogenic bacterial population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Since antibiotic resistance is a major threat to global health, recent observations that the traditional test of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) is not informative enough to guide effective antibiotic treatment are alarming.

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Influence of the Built-up Edge on the Stress State in the Chip Formation Zone During Orthogonal Cutting of AISI1045 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In-situ strain measurements with high energy synchrotron radiation during orthogonal cutting of AISI1045 were carried out. Thereby it was possible to determine the stress state in the chip formation zone during the cutting process.

Simulation of the Chip Formation

open access: yesDEStech Transactions on Engineering and Technology Research, 2016
The article deals with the simulation of chip formation at different ratios between the rounded cutting edge and cutting thickness. Aim of the research has been focused on the interpretation of new knowledge from the cutting theory. Authors have tried to understand the theory of cutting process by means of simulation and provide the recommendations for

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell
