Visible Octave Frequency Combs in Silicon Nitride Nanophotonic Waveguides Driven by Ti:Sapphire Lasers

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Chip‐based frequency combs are usually pumped from telecom wavelengths, far from the visible. This work instead pumps close to the visible with a Ti:sapphire laser ‐ the source behind the original optical frequency combs and now becoming chip‐integrable‐ and lets silicon‐nitride waveguides convert it into efficient, octave‐spanning visible‐to‐infrared ...

Phase Noise Effects on OFDM Chirp Communication Systems: Characteristics and Compensation

open access: yesInformation
Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) chirp waveforms are an attractive candidate to be a dual-function signal scheme for the joint radar and communication systems.

Noise Suppression via Gain‐Dispersion‐Managed Nonlinear Amplification in a High‐Power Er‐Fiber Laser

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Gain‐dispersion‐managed nonlinear pre‐amplification simultaneously suppresses phase and intensity noise, enabling scalable high‐power fiber amplification. The system delivers 102.3 W linearly polarized pulses with 1.19 µJ energy at 85.69 MHz and compresses them to 380 fs. Near‐linear power scaling without evident saturation highlights a practical route

Attosecond‐Stable Two‐Dimensional Spectroscopy by a Sagnac‐Based Modulating System and a Sub‐4‐fs Continuum Source

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A novel optical platform integrates a Sagnac‐based interferometer with a high‐brightness multiple‐plate continuum source to advance two‐dimensional electronic spectroscopy. The robust system delivers octave‐spanning, 3.7‐femtosecond pulses and achieves intrinsic attosecond‐level phase stability without active feedback.

A JAR of Chirps: The Gymnotiform Chirp Can Function as Both a Communication Signal and a Jamming Avoidance Response

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2019
The weakly electric gymnotiform fish produce a rhythmic electric organ discharge (EOD) used for communication and active electrolocation. The EOD frequency is entrained to a medullary pacemaker nucleus. During communication and exploration, this rate can

Simultaneous ToF/FMCW LiDAR Using a Dual‐Mode Light Source in a Single Architecture

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A simultaneous ToF/FMCW LiDAR architecture is demonstrated using a dual‐mode light source that alternately generates optical pulses and frequency‐chirped light within a single acquisition. By combining time‐domain ToF and coherent FMCW ranging, the system achieves high‐resolution ranging and velocity sensing while extending the measurable range beyond ...

Single channel nonstationary signal separation using linear time-varying filters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Separability of signal mixtures given only one mixture observation is defined as the identification of the accuracy to which the signals can be separated.

Multispectral Mid‐Infrared Imaging With Incoherent Light via Adiabatic Upconversion

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
We demonstrate room‐temperature broadband MIR imaging based on adiabatic frequency upconversion, driven by a Q‐switched pump laser and incoherent illumination. The small‐foot‐print system upconverts the spectral range to the visible domain, without scanning, thermal control and with spatial resolution below 20μm$20\mathrm{\mu}\mathrm{m}$.
