Photoperiod as Cues for Determining Optimal Foraging in Developmental Stages in Chitala chitala Hamilton, 1822

Proceedings of the Zoological Society, 2013
Photoperiod plays an important role in controlling the feeding rhythmicity of juvenile fishes. Studies on feeding and spatial distribution pattern were made on wild populations of different juvenile stages of Chitala chitala, a threatened species in India.

Genetic divergence in two featherback fishes, Chitala chitala and Notopterus notopterus

Journal of Applied Ichthyology, 2006
Summary Allozyme and RAPD profiles reveal markers that discriminate Chitala chitala and Notopterus notopterus. Thirty-five allozyme loci were scored from 23 allozyme systems. Species-specific differences were found at 16 loci. Fifteen RAPD markers with 77 size fragments, 244–2902 bp, were identified. The number of fragments specific to C.

Integrative taxonomy of the featherback fish genus Chitala (Osteoglossomorpha: Notopteridae) in Peninsular Malaysia

open access: yesZoologica Scripta
The taxonomy of the freshwater featherback fish genus Chitala (Osteoglossomorpha: Notopteridae) remains unsettled because delimiting and naming Chitala species based solely on morphology led to different hypotheses. In this study, we aim to determine the

Profile of Digestive Enzymes Activity During Early Development of Featherback Chitala chitala (Hamilton, 1822)

Proceedings of the Zoological Society, 2016
The ontogenetic development of the key digestive enzymes of featherback Chitala chitala was assayed during the early development. Amylase, lipase, trypsin and chymotrypsin activities were detected on 1 days after hatch (DAH), (during endotrophic stage) but pepsin activity was detected on 12 DAH (exotrophic phase) correlated with the improvement of ...

Mitochondrial DNA markers reveal genetic connectivity among populations of Osteoglossiform fish Chitala chitala

Molecular Biology Reports, 2020
Genetic diversity and population structure in Indian featherback fish, Chitala chitala (Hamilton, 1822) was investigated by combined analyses of two full mitochondrial genes, ATPase 6/8 and Cytochrome b. A total of 403 individuals, collected from 14 rivers yielded 61 haplotypes.

Development and characterization of a new cell line CF from caudal fin of knifefish, Chitala chitala (Hamilton-Buchanan)

In Vitro Cellular and Developmental Biology - Animal, 2013
A new cell line was successfully obtained from caudal fin tissue of the economically important freshwater fish Chitala chitala. The cell line was optimally maintained at 28°C in Leibovitz's L-15 supplemented with 20% fetal bovine serum (FBS). The effects of temperature and concentration of FBS on the growth of CF cells were examined.

Characteristics of collagen from the skin of clown featherback (Chitala ornata) [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Science and Technology, 2015
Acid soluble collagen (ASC) and pepsin soluble collagen (PSC) from the skin of clown featherback (Chitala ornata) were isolated and characterised. Yields of ASC and PSC were 27.64 and 44.63% (dry weight basis) with total collagen recovery of 82.08%. Both

Polymorphic microsatellite markers isolated from partially enriched genomic library of Chitala chitala

Molecular Ecology Notes, 2006
AbstractA total eight polymorphic microsatellite loci were obtained from genomic library of Indian feather back, Chitala chitala (order Osteoglossiformes, family Notopteridae) and the 46 samples were analysed to determine genetic variation. The mean number of alleles per locus ranged from 4.50 to 5.25, and expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.124 to 0.

Biological parameters of the endangered fish Chitala chitala (Osteoglossiformes: Notopteridae) from some Indian rivers

Fisheries Research, 2008
Abstract Age, growth and maturity data of the freshwater feather back Chitala chitala (Hamilton-Buchanan, 1822) were collected from ten different geographical locations. Out of ten populations, maximum 6+ ages were recorded from four river basins namely river Bhagirathi, Koshi, Saryu and Ganga and the back calculated lengths at 6+ ages ranged from ...

Probiotic Effect of Bacillus licheniformis fb11 on the Digestive Efficiency and Growth Performance in Juvenile Chitala chitala (Hamilton, 1822)

Proceedings of the Zoological Society, 2017
Five isocaloric (430 kcal 100 g−1), isonitrogenous (40% CP) experimental diets were formulated with different concentrations of Bacillus licheniformis fb11 probionts (isolated from the gut of Chitala chitala) viz. Control (without probionts), 5 × 104 CFU g−1 (D1), 5 × 105 CFU g−1 (D2), 5 × 106 CFU g−1 (D3), 5 × 107 CFU g−1 (D4), 5 × 108 CFU g−1 (D5) to
