Medicine‐Food Plant Polysaccharides Modulate Diabetes and Diabetic Complications Through Maintaining Gut Function: A Review

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 6, Issue 6, Page 2720-2765, November 2025.
Polysaccharides derived from medicine‐food plants restore intestinal barrier integrity and microbiota balance while modulating short‐chain fatty acid levels. These modifications significantly alleviate diabetes and its complications, including nephropathy, retinopathy, cardiovascular disease, and neuropathy.

Enzymatic Modifications of Chitin, Chitosan, and Chitooligosaccharides

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2019
Chitin and its N-deacetylated derivative chitosan are two biological polymers that have found numerous applications in recent years, but their further deployment suffers from limitations in obtaining a defined structure of the polymers using traditional ...

Differentiation Trajectory of Virus‐Induced Tumour Cells in Rice Revealed by Single‐Cell RNA Sequencing

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 11, Page 4794-4812, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Many plant viruses trigger abnormal differentiation and development of host cells, causing distinct symptoms. Here, in a single‐cell RNA sequence analysis, we find transcriptional heterogeneity between cells from rice leaf sheaths that are infected with rice black streaked dwarf virus (RBSDV) and from those that are virus‐free.

Enzymatic Production of Chitosan from theWhite ShrimpWaste (Penaeus merguiensis) and Its Applicationas Preservatives in Fishery Products [PDF]

open access: yes
Production of chitosan from white shrimp waste (Penaeus merguiensis) enzymatically with protease and chitin deacetylase. These both enzymes are a group of hydrolytic enzymes that could potentially be used in the processing of fish waste that contains ...

Investigating Aspergillus nidulans secretome during colonisation of cork cell walls [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Cork, the outer bark of Quercus suber, shows a unique compositional structure, a set of remarkable properties, including high recalcitrance. Cork colonisation by Ascomycota remains largely overlooked.

Shotgun analysis on the peritrophic membrane of the silkworm Bombyx mori [PDF]

open access: yesBMB Reports, 2012
The insect midgut epithelium is generally lined with a uniquechitin and protein structure, the peritrophic membrane (PM),which facilitates food digestion and protects the gut epithelium. We used gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry toidentify the ...

Extremely Low Concentrations of Acetic Acid Stimulate Cell Differentiation in Rice Blast Fungus

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Summary: Metabolic switching and rewiring play a dynamic role in programmed cell differentiation. Many pathogenic microbes need to survive in nutrient-deficient conditions and use the glyoxylate cycle, an anaplerotic pathway of the tricarboxylic acid ...

Extraction, Characterization, and Antimicrobial Ability of Chitosan and Edible Oil From Ugandan Winged Termites

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 10, October 2025.
This study extracted edible oil and chitosan using both chemical and green extraction techniques, from four species of edible winged termites. Yield and efficiency of the extraction techniques were compared, the extracted products characterized for physico‐chemical properties, and the antimicrobial ability of chitosan assessed against a gram‐positive ...
