Chlorogenic acid as a competitive inhibitor of indoleacetic acid oxidase

Abstract An enzyme system oxidizing indoleacetic acid was isolated from pea epicotyls. It had an optimal activity at pH 5.6. Chlorogenic acid was a competitive inhibitor for the oxidase in vitro. Caffeic acid inhibited IAA oxidase in a noncompetitive fashion, and quinic acid, the other moiety of chlorogenic acid, was inactive.

On enzyme inhibition by oxidized chlorogenic acid

Abstract The inhibiting action of oxidized chlorogenic acid (Ox-CGA) on the activity of several enzymes has been investigated. A comparative analysis of the effects of Ox-CGA with those of p-hydroxy-mercuri-benzoate seems to exclude the -SH groups of the proteins as the main site of action of Ox-CGA.

Abstract 1. 1. The silicic acid column technique described by Bulen et al. (9) has been used in a study of the distribution of caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid isomers in plants. Ultraviolet-absorption measurements and titration with alkali were used for the detection of these acids. 2. 2. Resolution into five bands was achieved.
