On the variability of chlorogenic acid concentration
Oecologia, 1972The plasticity of phenolic acid concentration in plants under various physiological stress situations raises questions concerning the ecological significance of such behavior. Helianthus annuus L. is remarkably plastic with regard to chlorogenic and ischlorogenic acid concentrations when subjected to nitrogen deficiency, NaCl-stress, short exposures to

Chlorogenic acid-protein interactions in sunflower
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1974Phenolic compounds in Commander, Majak and Valley sunflowers varied between 3.0 and 3.5g of chlorogenic acid per 100 g of flour. Under neutral and alkaline conditions, sunflower protein solutions develop dark green and brown colors because of bonding with oxidation products of polyphenolic compounds, especially chlorogenic acid.

Chlorogenic acid composition of instant coffees
The Analyst, 1984A method, based on high-performance liquid chromatography, is described for the determination of chlorogenic acid isomers in instant coffee. Identification of the individual components was assisted by the preparation of isomeric mixtures by the isomerisation of available compounds and quantification based on published ultraviolet molar absorptivities ...

Cognitive and neuroprotective effects of chlorogenic acid
Nutritional Neuroscience, 2016The aim of this review was to provide an overview of studies conducted to determine the effects of chlorogenic acid (CGA) on cognition and neurological health.A literature search was conducted using PubMed and various search terms including chlorogenic acid, CGA, memory, neuroscience, cognition, nutrition, antioxidant, pharmacokinetics, neuroprotection,

Effect of chlorogenic acid on hydroxyl radical
Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, 2003Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is considered to act as an antioxidant. However, the inhibitory effects of CGA on specific radical species are not well understood. Electron spin resonance (ESR) in combination with spin trapping techniques was utilized to detect free radicals.

Determination of Chlorogenic Acid
Nature, 1957SLOTTA AND NEISSER1 found that o-dihydroxy-phenolic compounds such as chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid could be oxidized quantitatively with an alkaline hypoiodate solution, and used this method for the determination of these acids in coffee. They found that for every mole of chlorogenic or caffeic acid, 10 gm.-atoms of iodine were required for ...

Absorptive profile of chlorogenic acid in rats
Die Pharmazie, 2007The objective of this work was to systematically investigate the absorptive profile of chlorogenic acid (CGA) in rats and to increase its intestinal absorption using absorption enhancers. The rat in situ intestinal perfusion technique was used to examine absorptive rate and extent of CGA.

Abstract Experiments in which potato tuber slices were maintained on a tracer amount of [α- 14 C]cinnamic acid and synthetic 3- 0 -cinnamoylquinic acid (pH adjusted to 6) showed that if this conjugate is a free intermediate in chlorogenic acid (3- 0 -caffeoylquinic acid) formation, then the active pool of the compound is very small and is contained ...

Chlorogenic acid as a competitive inhibitor of indoleacetic acid oxidase
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1957Abstract An enzyme system oxidizing indoleacetic acid was isolated from pea epicotyls. It had an optimal activity at pH 5.6. Chlorogenic acid was a competitive inhibitor for the oxidase in vitro. Caffeic acid inhibited IAA oxidase in a noncompetitive fashion, and quinic acid, the other moiety of chlorogenic acid, was inactive.
