DMS‐MaPseq and DREEM Analyses Implicate the Critical Role of RNA Structural Dynamics in Turnip Yellow Mosaic Virus Pathogenicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RNA structural profiling of Turnip Yellow Mosaic Virus by DMS‐MaPseq and DREEM analyses uncover that viral genome‐wide RSS is highly complicated and heterogeneous, with alternative RSSs widely distributed across the genome. Notably, the viral 3’ tRNA‐like structure adopts alternative conformations in vivo.

Blue-fluorescence of NADPH as an indicator of marine primary production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate (NADPH) is the primary product of photosynthesisand can therefore serve as an indicator of biomass and photosynthetic activity.

Changes in microphytobenthos fluorescence over a tidal cycle: implications for sampling designs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Intertidal microphytobenthos (MPB) are important primary producers and provide food for herbivores in soft sediments and on rocky shores. Methods of measuring MPB biomass that do not depend on the time of collection relative to the time of day or tidal ...

A leaf phenomics approach for estimating belowground traits in North American licorice

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Selective breeding over thousands of years has prioritized aboveground yield, with little regard for changes belowground. Roots underpin plant growth and resilience, but our knowledge of these critical structures lags behind that of aboveground structures.

Synthesis and potential use of 1,8-naphthalimide type O-1(2) sensor molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
New double (fluorescent and spin) sensor molecules containing 4-amino substituted 1,8-naphthalimide as a fluorophore and a sterically hindered amine (pre-nitroxide) or pyrroline nitroxide as a quencher and radical capturing moiety were synthesized.

Mimicking a Light‐Harvesting Complex to Accelerate Photooxidation in Asymmetric Lipid Membrane Nanoreactors

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Biomimetic liposome nanoreactors mimicking natural light‐harvesting complexes enable efficient photooxidation of NADH. Membrane‐anchored fluorescein transfers energy via FRET to membrane anchored eosin Y, oxidizing NADH. While symmetric membranes show little improvement, asymmetric chromophore distribution enhances photooxidation rates by up to 27 ...

EFFICIENCY OF PHOTOSYNTHETIC APPARATUS OF PLANTS GROWN IN SITES DIFFERING IN LEVEL OF PARTICULATE MATTER

open access: yesActa Scientiarum Polonorum: Hortorum Cultus, 2014
Particulate matter (PM) is among the most harmful pollutants inhaled by man. To reduce its concentration in air, plants could be used as biological filters, adsorbing PM on the foliage (SPM) or stabilizing in waxes (WPM).

Laboratory tank studies of a single species of phytoplankton using a remote sensing fluorosensor [PDF]

open access: yes
Phytoplankton were grown in the laboratory for the purpose of testing a remote fluorosensor. The fluorosensor uses a unique four-wavelength dye laser system to excite phytoplankton bearing chlorophyll and to measure the chlorophyll fluorescence generated

In Vivo Assessment of Cold Tolerance through Chlorophyll-a Fluorescence in Transgenic Zoysiagrass Expressing Mutant Phytochrome A

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Chlorophyll-a fluorescence analysis provides relevant information about the physiology of plants growing under abiotic stress. In this study, we evaluated the influence of cold stress on the photosynthetic machinery of transgenic turfgrass, Zoysia ...
