Simultaneous determination of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b by derivative spectrophotometry
Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2004Chlorophyll a (Chl a) and chlorophyll b (Chl b) plant pigments, which are important in the food industry and are beneficial as environmental pollution indicators, have been extracted with a novel solvent mixture (1:1 v/v acetone-propanol) not containing chloroform and simultaneously determined by first-derivative spectrophotometry.

Conversion of Chlorophyll b to Chlorophyll a by Isolated Cucumber Etioplasts
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1993Chlorophyllide b was converted to chlorophyll a when incubated with cucumber etioplasts in the presence of phytol, ATP, and MgCl2. Chlorophyll a was identified by retention time on HPLC, absorption, fluorescence, and excitation spectra. It is suggested that the interconversion of chlorophyll a and b plays a significant role in the establishment of the ...

Chlorophylls (Chls) are pigments involved in light capture and light reactions in photosynthesis. Chl a, Chl b, Chl d, and Chl f are characterized by unique absorbance maxima in the blue (Soret) and red (Qy) regions with Chl b, Chl d, and Chl f each possessing a single formyl group at a unique position.

Abstract Algorithms based on reflectance band ratios have been developed for the remote estimation of chlorophyll a , chlorophyll b , chlorophyll a+b , and total carotenoid content of Eucalyptus leaves. Reflectance spectra over the 400–2500 nm range with a spectral resolution of 2 nm and the content of chlorophylls a , b , a+b , and total ...

Fluorescence anisotropy of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b in castor oil
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1989A detailed study of the fluorescence anisotropy of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b in castor oil is presented. Scanningacross the wavelength of emission the value of the fluorescence anisotropy shows a considerable variation. This indicates that differently polarized emission moments are present.

New chlorophyll-b forms in a chlorophyll-detergent photosynthetic model system
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1975The absorption spectra of chlorophyll b in Triton X-100 micelles at room temperature are superpositions of components with absorption maxima at 640.8, 648.9, 659.5, 669.6, 682.1 and 695.7 nm, obtained from Gaussian analysis of the spectra. The last four forms strongly overlap the chlorophyll a forms of this system obtained with maxima at 659.3, 667.6 ...

Die kristallisierten natürlichen Chlorophylle a und b. 9. Mitteilung über Chlorophyll
Helvetica Chimica Acta, 1959AbstractBy careful and speedy work it has been possible to isolate the chlorophyll components a and b in such a pure and intact state that, under suitable conditions, they precipitate in well‐formed crystals. The crystalline substances so obtained meet all criteria for pure chlorophylls a and b.

The chlorina-f2 mutant of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) contains no chlorophyll b in its light-harvesting antenna, whereas the chlorina-103 mutant contains approximately 10% of the chlorophyll b found in wild-type. The absolute chlorophyll antenna size for Photosystem-II in wild-type, chlorina-103 and chlorina-f2 mutant was 250, 58 and 50 chlorophyll ...

Investigations of biochemical reactions involved in the formation of chlorophyll b pigment are still in progress (Rudiger, 1997). An interesting new approach is the study of suppression of the cbnl-gene mutation which leads to chlorophyll b absence in the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (Chunaev et al., 1991).

CONTROL OF CHLOROPHYLL b BIOSYNTHESIS BY PHYTOCHROME
Photochemistry and Photobiology, 1978AbstractIn the mustard seedling cotyledons, chlorophyll b appears from the very beginning in white light provided that a red light pulse pretreatment was given 12 h prior to the onset of white light. The red light pulses act through phytochrome. Without pretreatment no chlorophyll b is detectable at least during the first 60 min after the onset of ...
