Effects of Hot Air Drying on the Nutritional and Phytochemical Composition of Radish (Raphanus sativus L.) Microgreens

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 90, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Cruciferous microgreens are recognized for their high content of phytochemicals, particularly glucosinolates. Their high moisture content and water activity make them highly perishable after harvest and highlight the need for effective preservation methods that maintain their nutritional quality.

Anti-proliferative activity of oral anti-hyperglycemic agents on human vascular smooth muscle cells: thiazolidinediones (glitazones) have enhanced activity under high glucose conditions

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2007
Background Inhibition of vascular smooth muscle cell (vSMC) proliferation by oral anti-hyperglycemic agents may have a role to play in the amelioration of vascular disease in diabetes.

Association between chronic diseases and severe periodontal disease progression: A retrospective cohort study in a city of Japan

open access: yesJournal of General and Family Medicine, Volume 26, Issue 1, Page 54-64, January 2025.

Chlorpropamide-alcohol flushing and plasma chlorpropamide concentrations in diabetic patients on maintenance chlorpropamide therapy [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetologia, 1983
Forty-three diabetic patients on maintenance chlorpropamide (100-750 mg daily) drank 0.2 ml/kg 90% ethanol after equilibration in a room controlled at 20 degrees C. Twenty-five patients had already noted marked alcohol flushing since starting chlorpropamide therapy (group A), while 13 had not observed this (group B).

Medications and Acute Hemolysis in G6PD‐Deficient Patients – A Real‐World Study

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 116, Issue 6, Page 1537-1543, December 2024.
Many drug labels contain precautions of use in G6PD‐deficient patients due to hemolytic concerns, but much of this is based on scarce clinical, epidemiological, or structural data. In this real‐world study, we aimed to examine if the administration of presumably risky medications for G6PD‐deficient patients was followed by hemolysis. The study is based

Glyburide use is associated with a greater likelihood of mortality or rehospitalization after acute coronary syndrome compared to gliclazide use in adults with type 2 diabetes: A cohort study

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 26, Issue 11, Page 5408-5419, November 2024.
Abstract Aim To examine the likelihood of mortality or rehospitalization following acute coronary syndrome with glyburide versus gliclazide use in adults with type 2 diabetes undergoing cardiac catheterization. Research Design and Methods This retrospective cohort study used clinical data linked with administrative health data from Alberta, Canada ...

Metabolomic identification of predictive and early biomarkers of cisplatin‐induced acute kidney injury in adult head and neck cancer patients

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 90, Issue 8, Page 1790-1803, August 2024.
Aim Cisplatin causes acute kidney injury (AKI) in approximately one third of patients. Serum creatinine and urinary output are poor markers of cisplatin‐induced AKI. Metabolomics was utilized to identify predictive or early diagnostic biomarkers of cisplatin‐induced AKI.

Current type 2 diabetes guidelines: Individualized treatment and how to make the most of metformin

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 26, Issue S3, Page 55-74, August 2024.
Abstract Evidence‐based guidelines provide the premise for the delivery of quality care to preserve health and prevent disabilities and premature death. The systematic gathering of observational, mechanistic and experimental data contributes to the hierarchy of evidence used to guide clinical practice. In the field of diabetes, metformin was discovered

Prevalence of potentially inappropriate medications among newly treated patients with type 2 diabetes in UK primary care

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 90, Issue 6, Page 1376-1394, June 2024.
Abstract Aims The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of potentially inappropriate prescriptions (PIPs) in patients starting their first noninsulin antidiabetic treatment (NIAD) using two explicit process measures of the appropriateness of prescribing in UK primary care, stratified by age and polypharmacy status.
