Successful cholinergic-noradrenergic pharmacotherapy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is thought to be due to effects at the hypoglossal motor nucleus (HMN). Clinical efficacy varies with muscarinic-receptor (MR) subtype affinities. We hypothesized that

Differing time dependencies of object recognition memory impairments produced by nicotinic and muscarinic cholinergic antagonism in perirhinal cortex [PDF]
The roles of muscarinic and nicotinic cholinergic receptors in perirhinal cortex in object recognition memory were compared. Rats' discrimination of a novel object preference test (NOP) test was measured after either systemic or local infusion into the ...

HYPERURICEMIC EFFECTS OF CHOLINERGIC AGENTS IN RATS
The hyperuricemic effect of cholinergic agents was studied in rats given potassium oxonate which inhibits urate oxidase and in functionally hepatectomized rats. Acetylcholine slightly increased plasma uric acid in the oxonate-treated animals, and the effect was markedly enhanced by pretreatment with physostigmine.

Cholinergic mechanisms in depression [PDF]
Evidence supporting a cholinergic hypothesis of depression is presented. First, cholinergic overdrive produces behavioral, neuroendocrine, and polysomnographic features of melancholia, and melancholics exhibit state-independent supersensitivity to ...

Brain gamma rhythm and potential treatment of neurodegenerative disease
In this mini-review, we illustrate the brain network oscillations in different brain areas, including the medial septal diagonal band complex (MSDB) and hippocampus, especially at gamma frequency bands (γ, 30–80 Hz) and theta frequency bands (θ, 4–12 Hz),

(-)-Phenserine attenuates soman-induced neuropathology. [PDF]
Organophosphorus (OP) nerve agents are deadly chemical weapons that pose an alarming threat to military and civilian populations. The irreversible inhibition of the critical cholinergic degradative enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) by OP nerve agents ...

THE NATURE OF ACETYLCHOLINE RECEPTOR [PDF]
The present work with consideratlon to the autoradiographic pictures, suggests that cholinergic receptors are located at the gate of a channel originating from synaptic cleft coming to lie within the muscle fibre. AChE molecules stand at the gate of this
