Chondroitin Product Selection for the Glucosamine/Chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial

Journal of the American Pharmacists Association, 2006
To select a high-quality chondroitin dosage form and/or an appropriate source of sodium chondroitin for the National Institutes of Health's Glucosamine/Chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT).Controlled experimental trials.Laboratory.Not applicable.Commercially available chondroitin products were reviewed, and purified sodium chondroitin from ...

Sequential synthesis of chondroitin oligosaccharides by immobilized chondroitin polymerase mutants

Glycoconjugate Journal, 2008
Escherichia coli strain K4 expresses a chondroitin (CH)-polymerizing enzyme (K4CP) that contains two glycosyltransferase active domains. K4CP alternately transfers glucuronic acid (GlcA) and N-acetyl-galactosamine (GalNAc) residues using UDP-GlcA and UDP-GalNAc donors to the nonreducing end of a CH chain acceptor.

Biosynthesis of Chondroitin Sulphates

Nature, 1959
LITTLE information is available regarding the biosynthesis of acid mucopolysaccharides. Knowledge of biosynthetic pathways to the chondroitin sulphates in particular is practically confined to the fact that glucose is utilized for both the hexosamine and uronic acid moieties1 and that 3′—phosphoadenosine 5′—phosphosulphate (PAPS) is involved in ...

Structural Domains in Chondroitin Sulfate Identified by Anti-Chondroitin Sulfate Monoclonal Antibodies. Immunosequencing of Chondroitin Sulfates

Matrix, 1993
Monoclonal antibodies have been developed that recognize epitopes in native chondroitin sulfate chains. One of these antibodies, CS-56, reportedly recognizes chondroitin 4- and 6-sulfates. However, this antibody, and four other anti-chondroitin sulfate antibodies, 4C3, 4D3, 6C3 and 7D4, do not recognize epitopes in chondroitin sulfate chains from Swarm

Semisynthesis of Chondroitin Sulfate Oligosaccharides Based on the Enzymatic Degradation of Chondroitin

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019
Chondroitin sulfate (CS) is a structurally complex polyanionic glycosaminoglycan that plays essential roles in physiological processes. Here we report a facile approach to a library of CS tetra- and hexasaccharides based on the enzymatic degradation of chondroitin over 10 or 11 steps, which is the shortest synthetic route toward size-defined CS ...

Chondroitin, chondroitin 6-sulphate, chondroitin 4-sulphate and dermatan sulphate proteoglycans in normal and pathological human muscle

Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 1987
Chondroitin, chondroitin 6-sulphate, chondroitin 4-sulphate and dermatan sulphate proteoglycans were immunolocalized by monoclonal antibodies applied to human muscle sections digested with chondroitinase. In normal muscle the 4 proteoglycans presented a different extracellular localization: unsulphated chondroitin sulphate (chondroitin) was present in ...
