Chorioallantoic Membrane Vasculature
2010Chick embryo development lasts 21 days before hatching. There are four extraembryonic membranes of the chick: the yolk sac, the amnion, the serosa, and the allantois. The serosa of the chick is occasionally called chorion; the term chorion, however, is more frequently applied to the composite layer formed by the fusion of the allantois and the serosa.

Angiotensinogen impairs angiogenesis in the chick chorioallantoic membrane
Journal of Molecular Medicine, 2006Angiotensinogen shares with other members of the serine protease inhibitor (serpin) family antiangiogenic properties. Angiotensinogen inhibits in vitro endothelial cell proliferation, and is antiangiogenic in ovo in the chick chorioallantoic membrane assay.

Quantitative Titration of Vaccinia Virus on the Chorioallantoic Membrane
The Journal of Immunology, 1956Summary Detailed studies of vaccinia virus titrations on the chorioallantoic membrane of the embryonated egg are described. Experiments to determine the optimal experimental techniques for such titrations indicate that the use of membranes free from non-specific damage is essential.

Ultrastructural Studies of Chicken Embryo Chorioallantoic Membrane during Incubation
Anatomia, Histologia, Embryologia, 1979SummaryStructural changes taking place in the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) of embryonated hen's eggs during incubation were followed up by histological, histochemical and electron microscopic methods. The allantoic sac surrounds the amnionic sac and also the yolk sac by the 7th to 11th day, respectively, and forms together with the chorion the CAM ...

Other Applications of Chorioallantoic Membrane
2010The embryo and its extraembryonic membranes are transferred to a Petri dish on day 3 or 4 of incubation and CAM develops at the top as a flat membrane and reaches the edge of the dish to provide a two-dimensional monolayer onto which multiple grafts can be placed (Auerbach et al., 1974; Jakobson et al., 1989).

Opioids Inhibit Angiogenesis in a Chorioallantoic Membrane Model.
Pain physician, 2017Angiogenesis is an important characteristic of cancer. Switching from the avascular phase to the vascular phase is a necessary process for tumor growth. Therefore, research in cancer treatment has focused on angiogenesis as a drug target. Despite the widespread use of opioids to treat pain in patients with cancer, little is known about the effect of ...

Bioluminescence Imaging in the Chick Chorioallantoic Membrane Assay
2019For the analysis of tumorigenesis and therapeutic intervention, high throughput technologies that allow the detection of tumor size in the context of a living organism are of need. Here we describe the use of a chorioallantoic membrane model in the developing chick embryo on which growth of a tumor xenograft can be monitored over time, enabling ...

The Chick Embryo Chorioallantoic Membrane Assay
2015During avian development the mesodermal layers of the allantois and chorion fuse to form the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM). This structure rapidly expands generating a rich vascular network that provides an interface for gas and waste exchange. The CAM allows to study tissue grafts, tumor growth and metastasis, drugs delivery and toxicologic analysis,

Vascularization of embryonic adrenal gland grafted onto chorioallantoic membrane
Anatomy and Embryology, 1998Vascularization and endothelial phenotype expression were analysed in embryonic adrenal tissue grafted onto chorioallantoic membrane (CAM), by means of routine light microscopy and immunocytochemical staining, and of electron microscopy. Adrenal gland tissue from chick or quail embryos (donors) was grafted onto CAMs of chick or quail embryos (host ...

Hen's egg chorioallantoic membrane test for irritation potential
Food and Chemical Toxicology, 1985The increasingly large number of chemicals introduced onto the market and into the environment has necessitated the monitoring of environmental materials and specimen banking, as well as the development of rapid and reliable methods for the evaluation of toxicity.
