Abstract A light-induced phosphorylation of adenosine diphosphate has been studied, using pigmented particles derived from sonic extracts of the obligately-anaerobic photosynthetic purple sulfur bacterium Chromatium . Isolation and Characterization of the Lipopolysaccharide of Chromatium vinosum

Variable cellular composition of Chromatium in growing cultures

Chromatium strain D was grown on autotrophic medium with sulfide as the sole electron donor and on heterotrophic media. The following growth parameters were monitored: sulfide, intracellular sulfur, cell number, bacteriochlorophyll, protein, storage polysaccharide, dry weight, and turbidity.
