Rhodopseudomonas palustris TIE‐1, a phototrophic Fe(II) oxidiser, is metabolically flexible and can use inorganic and organic substrates as an electron donor. This study investigated the use of different organic molecules as co‐substrates on Fe(II) oxidation rates in the presence and absence of CO2 and mineral formation at environmentally relevant ...

Pyridine Nucleotide Transhydrogenase from Chromatium
Abstract The isolation and purification of a soluble transhydrogenase from Chromatium is described. The enzyme promotes the oxidation of reduced triphosphopyridine nucleotide by diphosphopyridine nucleotide. However, it will also use several analogues of DPN and TPN which include deamino-DPN, deamino-TPN, thionicotinamide DPN, and deamino-DPNH ...

Nano‐Scale Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry: A Paradigm Shift in Soil Science
Soils exhibit structural heterogeneity across diverse spatio‐temporal scales, yielding myriad of microhabitats, highlighting the need for a nuanced understanding of the intricate interactions within the soil matrix. At the nanometer scale, the interplay among organic matter (OM), mineral particles, and microbiota intricately govern the long‐term ...

Recurring use of chemical fertilizers (CFs) in agriculture has resulted the remarkable improvement in crop productivity but their ruinous effects on environment have made a serious issue. Biological entities (e.g., several microorganisms) showing fertilizer‐like activities have gained attention in this regard.

Purification and properties of the glutathione reductase of Chromatium vinosum [PDF]
The Chromatium vinosum glutathione reductase [NAD(P)H: glutathione disulfide oxidoreductase, EC 1.6.4.2] was purified to apparent homogeneity. The enzyme was found to require reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) as a reductant and to be specific for oxidized glutathione (GSSG).
