Synthesis of Six Natural Products Enabled by Selective Hydroxylation of Orcinaldehyde‐Like Substrates With an Enzyme Library

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Achieving selective (sp3)C–H hydroxylation can streamline the synthesis of complex organic molecules. Biocatalysis presents an opportunity to realize this transformation, however, identifying useful enzymes that enable synthetic strategies can be a challenge due to limitations in enzyme substrate scope.

4-[(4-Hydroxymethyl-2H-1,2,3-triazol-2-yl)methyl]-6-isopropyl-2H-chromen-2-one

open access: yesIUCrData, 2016
In the title compound, C16H17N3O3, the chromene ring is planar, with a maximum deviation of 0.017 (4) Å for the ring O atom. The triazole and the chromene rings, bridged by a methylene C atom, are inclined to one another by 78.3 (2)°.

Cyclopropylamine‐Derived Distonic Iminium Radicals: Photoinduced Strategies in Chemo‐ and Stereo‐Selective Synthesis

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Cyclopropylamines have emerged as powerful photocatalytic building blocks. Upon light‐induced single‐electron oxidation, they undergo strain‐release ring opening to generate distonic iminium radicals that enable diverse transformations, including ring‐opening functionalization, formal [3 + 2] cycloadditions, radical cascades, and asymmetric bond ...

Recent advances in palladium-catalysed asymmetric 1,4–additions of arylboronic acids to conjugated enones and chromones

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2021
The transition metal (palladium)-catalysed asymmetric 1,4-addition of arylboronic acids to conjugated enones belong to the most important and emerging strategies for the construction of C–C bonds in an asymmetric fashion.

Advances in organic UV filters for sunscreens over the past decade

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Highlighted organic UV filter frameworks that have been described for sunscreens over the past decade divided into three groups: derivatives of or inspired by approved organic UV filters, natural product‐based compounds, and miscellaneous. Abstract Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a major environmental factor in photoaging, erythema, and skin cancer ...

A Simple Model for Chromonic Aggregation [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 2015
A simple 2-dimensional model is introduced to study molecular stacking in planar-non-ionic chromonics. The model allows changes in aggregation, arising from changes in interaction regions within a chromonic molecule, to be quantified. Application of the model to a typical hydrophobic core – hydrophilic corona molecule, such as the triphenylene-based ...

Paradoxes for chromonic liquid crystal droplets

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2022
Chromonic liquid crystals constitute a novel lyotropic phase, whose elastic properties have so far been modeled within the classical Oseen-Frank theory, provided that the twist constant is assumed to be considerably smaller than the saddle-splay constant, in violation of one Ericksen inequality.
