Much progress has been made over the past year in our understanding of the cytogenesis, biology, and therapy of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Further definition of common cytogenetic abnormalities in CLL make it appear that the identification of a new tumor suppressor gene is close at hand.

Mohammed Shanshal, MD, and Rami Y. Haddad, MD, FACP hronic lymphocytic leukemia [chronic lymphoid leukemia (CLL)] is a onoclonal disorder characterized by a progressive accumulation of unctionally incompetent lymphocytes. The most characteristic feature of LL is a peripheral blood absolute lymphocytosis ( 5.0 10/L, but sually 15.0 10/L and sometimes ...

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia is a neoplasm characterized by the accumulation of monoclonal lymphocytes in blood, bone marrow, and other tissues. Staging of the disease is based on lymphoid mass and the presence of anemia or thrombocytopenia, with prognosis also related to the pattern of bone-marrow involvement, chromosomal abnormalities, and surface ...

Familial Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
Seminars in Oncology, 2006The role of inherited genetic factors in the etiology of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and other B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders (LPDs) is now well established. Significant familial aggregation of CLL and B-cell LPDs has been demonstrated, but the mode of inheritance is unknown.

Bronchiolocentric chronic lymphocytic leukemia
Cancer, 1986Three patients presented with symptoms of severe dyspnea, radiologic evidence of bilateral pulmonary infiltrates, and one had diffuse wheezing on auscultation. Open-lung biopsies revealed a neoplastic lymphocytic infiltrate in an exquisitely bronchiolocentric distribution with relative sparing of the rest of the lung parenchyma.

Transplantation in chronic lymphocytic leukemia
Current Hematologic Malignancy Reports, 2007Although there have been no randomized trials comparing the outcome of stem cell transplantation (SCT) with standard chemotherapy for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), increasingly, both autologous and allogeneic SCT approaches are being explored in this disease.
