Chylomicron and chylomicron remnant catabolism
Current Opinion in Lipidology, 1991Hepatic clearance of chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants appears to involve several steps: sequestration in the space of Disse, further lipolytic processing, and receptor-mediated internalization and degradation. The low-density lipoprotein receptor and possibly the low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein may participate in this process ...

Effects of VLDL, chylomicrons, and chylomicron remnants on platelet aggregability
Thrombosis Research, 1995Although influences of cholesterol-rich lipoproteins on platelet aggregation are well established, the knowledge of interactions between triglyceride-rich lipoproteins and platelets, in particular in the postprandial state, is limited and controversial.

Characterization of human chylomicrons
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1982Apolipoprotein and lipid composition of differently sized chylomicrons from healthy volunteers was determined. During their intravasal catabolism the chylomicrons lose triacylglycerol and apolipoproteins. Decreasing particle size results in a loss of apolipoprotein C and apolipoprotein E peptides and an increase in apolipoproteins B and A-I, which ...

Chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants in coronary artery disease: a case-control study
Atherosclerosis, 1987Epidemiologic studies of coronary artery disease have largely overlooked the role of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins circulating in the post-prandial state. We have conducted a case-control study in males which examined fasting plasma lipoproteins and lipoproteins circulating 4 h after ingestion of a test meal containing fat and cholesterol.

The quantitative separation of chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants by column chromatography
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1987Chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants cannot be separated by classical techniques of ultracentrifugation or gel filtration, since there is a marked overlap of density and size. Chylomicron remnants develop a high negative surface charge during their formation presumably due to surface-oriented free fatty acids.

Signposts in the assembly of chylomicrons
Frontiers in Bioscience, 2001Intestinal cells synthesize and secrete chylomicrons in the postprandial state. Synthesis of these particles is defective in abetalipoproteinemia and chylomicron retention disease. Chylomicrons are very large, heterogeneous, lipid-rich particles ranging in diameters from 75 to 450 nm and function to transport dietary fat and fat-soluble vitamins to ...
