A Probability Collectives Approach with a Feasibility-Based Rule for Constrained Optimization

open access: yesApplied Computational Intelligence and Soft Computing, 2011
This paper demonstrates an attempt to incorporate a simple and generic constraint handling technique to the Probability Collectives (PC) approach for solving constrained optimization problems.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

CIRCLE PACKING IN THE HYPERBOLIC PLANE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Summary: We consider circle packings in the hyperbolic plane, by finitely many congruent circles, which maximize the number of touching pairs. We show that such a packing has all of its centers located on the vertices of a triangulation of the hyperbolic plane by congruent equilateral triangles, provided the diameter \(d\) of the circles is such that ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Hospital-Scale Chest X-Ray Database Visualization Using RAWGraph Technique [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Science Journal of Moldova, 2020
For identification and screening of several lung diseases, the chest X-ray is just one of the very most often obtainable radiological tests. Most modern-day hospitals' Photo Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) collect thousands of X-ray imaging ...

Periodicity and Circle Packing in the Hyperbolic Plane

open access: yes, 2003
We prove that given a fixed radius $r$, the set of isometry-invariant probability measures supported on ``periodic'' radius $r$-circle packings of the hyperbolic plane is dense in the space of all isometry-invariant probability measures on the space of ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

From a packing problem to quantitative recurrence in [0,1] and the Lagrange spectrum of interval exchanges

open access: yesDiscrete Analysis, 2017
From a packing problem to quantitative recurrence in [0,1] and the Lagrange spectrum of interval exchanges, Discrete Analysis 2017:10, 25 pp. A basic fact in the theory of Diophantine approximation is Dirichlet's theorem that for every real number ...
