Circulating tumor cells and beyond [PDF]
, 2018 As cancer progresses, tumor cells can travel through the blood circulation to form metastasis. These circulating tumor cells (CTC) can be used as a liquid biopsy for the real-time information they carry about the tumor. They can be isolated from blood using the EpCAM molecule for enrichment.

Molecular Oncology, EarlyView.Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.
