Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Upper-ocean stratification changes control ENSO amplitude shift under sustained global warming
As projected by climate models in the high emission scenarios, the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) exhibits a non-monotonic amplitude shift. However, its key drivers remain poorly quantified.

Detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood before surgery may help predict outcomes in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Here, we show when combined with tumor size and lymph node involvement from routine imaging, CTC status identifies high‐risk patients with poorer survival—offering a simple, minimally invasive tool ...

Subduction of water masses is crucial for thermocline ventilation and climate variability. Using four ocean reanalysis products, we identify a significant interannual see‐saw variability in subduction rates of the South Pacific western and eastern ...

A flexible Regional Ocean Modeling System-based hybrid coupled model for El Niño–Southern Oscillation studies – model formulation and performance evaluation [PDF]
El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) constitutes the most prominent interannual climate variation mode in the climate system that originates from ocean–atmosphere interactions in the tropical Pacific.

LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Deep-reaching thermocline mixing in the equatorial pacific cold tongue
The role of thermocline mixing in the Pacific cold tongue in the propagation of ENSO remains uncertain. Here, Liu et al. show a persistent occurrence of mixing events in the middle and lower parts of the thermocline, particularly during tropical ...
