ABSTRACT Bioactive nanocomposite diffusion films containing plant essential oils (EOs) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were fabricated and tested against foodborne pathogens, spoilage organisms, and insects in packaged foods. Films were based on chitosan (CH), poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT), and polylactic acid (PLA), containing ...

Citrinin Toxicity in Growing Chicks
Male broiler chicks, from day-old to 3 weeks of age, were fed diets containing 0, 100, 220, 330, and 440 ppm citrinin produced by Penicillium lanosum grown on whole corn. Body weight decreased (P less than .05) when chicks were fed the diets containing 330 and 440 ppm citrinin.

Abstract Mycotoxins (mould toxins) are secondary metabolites of moulds. They are natural toxins whose occurrence in food and feed is undesirable but cannot be completely avoided. Mycotoxins may occur as contaminants in plant products and raw materials such as grains, nuts and almonds if they are infested with mould during cultivation, storage or ...

Citrinin Production and Stability in Cheese
Citrinin is a nephrotoxic fungal metabolite that has been demonstrated to be mutagenic in hepatocytes. It can be produced by several fungal species that belong mainly to the genus Penicillium and has been isolated from many feeds and human foods. Cheese is a very sensitive product because it can be naturally contaminated by citrinin-producing molds ...
