Prevalence of Class 1 Integron and Antibiotic Resistance among Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolated from Patients Admitted to the Burn Unit at Taleghani Hospital in Ahvaz [PDF]
Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the major etiologic agents of nosocomial infection among burn patients that has high resistance to antibiotics. Integrons can extend antibiotic resistance genes among bacteria.

This study reveals estragole's bactericidal activity against MDR/XDR Gram‐negative pathogens. Synergy with meropenem and tobramycin was observed in > 88% of strains, reducing antibiotic MICs up to 16‐fold. Estragole represents a promising therapeutic adjuvant to enhance antibiotic efficacy and combat antimicrobial resistance.

Species‐specific 16S‐23S ITS and antibiotic resistance IntI, blaCTX‐M, blaTEM and blaSHV genes of Klebsiella pneumoniae were detected, and most of the isolates were multidrug‐resistant. Target hazard quotient values of Fe for >1 revealed a higher level of hazard index. Target cancer risk values of Fe exceeded the recommended value (<10−4).
