Comparative thermodynamic insights of proteolytic enzymes from two indigenous potent probiotics with hypocholesterolemic activity

open access: yesDiscover Food
The aim of this study was to isolate and characterize lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains capable of producing proteases, evaluate their ability to release extracellular amino acids, and investigate their thermodynamic properties alongside their in vitro ...

Antimicrobial activity of an acetic and boric acid solution against Staphylococcus pseudintermedius [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Incubation of 101 colony forming units/ml of Staphylococcus pseudintermedius in an undiluted, a 1:2 and a 1:4 diluted aqueous 2% acetic acid and 2% boric acid solution resulted in inactivation of the bacteria within 30, 60 and 120 minutes, respectively ...

Antibiotics in the first week of life are not associated with functional gastrointestinal disorders at 9–12 years of age

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Dysbiosis due to early‐life antibiotics may contribute to the development of functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs). This follow‐up study of a birth cohort primarily investigates the association between antibiotic treatment in the first week of life and the presence of FGIDs at 9–12 years.

Detecting Antibiotic Resistance in Strains of Selected Gram‐Negative Bacterial Species Using Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Raman spectroscopy successfully identified antibiotic‐resistant Gram‐negative strains. Resistant strains of four bacterial species were discriminated from sensitive ones with 99.1% accuracy using PLS regression. The method allows for rapid, label‐free detection of antibiotic resistance.

Molecular analysis of the simultaneous production of two SHV-type extended-spectrum beta-lactamases in a clinical isolate of Enterobacter cloacae by using single-nucleotide polymorphism genotyping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Bacteria that simultaneously produce multiple extended-spectrum beta-lactamases are frequently isolated. We report an Enterobacter cloacae isolate, ES24, producing four different beta-lactamases (AmpC type beta-lactamase, TEM-1, SHV-7, and a novel ...
