Predicting Clear Sky Index for Performance Assessment of Roof Top on Grid PV Plant

2020 3rd International Conference on Emerging Technologies in Computer Engineering: Machine Learning and Internet of Things (ICETCE), 2020
This paper presents the development of NARX neural network model for predicting the clear sky index. Performance of on grid solar PV cell power plant needs important information of clear sky index to calculate the overall efficiency of the power plant. Institute has established roof top PV plant of a capacity 20 kW.

Scale-dependent Temporal Variability of the Clear-Sky Index and its Relevance for Solar Radiation Forecasts

2023
Solar radiation forecasting is essential for the efficient operation of solar energy plants. Accurate forecasting models can help optimize solar energy use, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impacts. The clear-sky index (CSI) is a common parameter used in forecasting models to estimate the amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth's surface ...

Sky conditions at Ilorin as characterized by clearness index and relative sunshine

Solar Energy, 2000
Abstract Clearness index (KT) and relative sunshine (S) are used to characterize the sky conditions at Ilorin, Nigeria (latitude: 8°32′N, longitude: 4°34′E, elevation: 375 m), a tropical location. Daily analysis shows that the majority of the days are relatively cloudy with hardly any very clear or overcast days.

Clear-sky index space-time trajectories from probabilistic solar forecasts: Comparing promising copulas

Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy, 2020
Short-term probabilistic solar forecasts are an important tool in decision-making processes in which uncertainty plays a non-negligible role. Purely statistical models that produce temporal or spatiotemporal probabilistic solar forecasts are generally trained individually, and the combined forecasts therefore lack the temporal or spatiotemporal ...

Analysis of solar heat gain factors using sky clearness index and energy implications

Energy Conversion and Management, 2001
Abstract For sizing air-conditioning equipment, maximum solar heat gain factors (SHGFs) are used for estimating the design peak load. Recently, SHGF data representing the prevailing weather conditions have become important and practical for part load performance design.

Evaluation of an Intra-Day Forecast Algorithm for a Rooftop PV Installation Using a Clear-Sky Index

2020
Continuous increase of the production of photovoltaic energy requires precise forecasting to ensure grid stability and allow use cases such as auto-consumption. This paper aims to perform a detailed evaluation of an intraday forecasting algorithm based on the combination of two machine learning algorithms: a Gradient Boosting Tree (GBT) and a ...

Satellite-Based Clear-Sky Index Nowcasting with U-Nets to Improve Solar Irradiance Forecasting in the Indian Ocean

Tropical regions exhibit high solar potential, making them well suited for photovoltaic deployment. Moreover, in non-interconnected zones, such as islands, solar power generation can contribute substantially to electricity supply. In this context, accurate intra-hour forecasts of surface solar irradiance facilitate the operation of photovoltaic plants ...
