Optical Clearing Using SeeDB

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2014
We describe a water-based optical clearing agent, SeeDB (See Deep Brain), which clears fixed brain samples in a few days without quenching many types of fluorescent dyes, including fluorescent proteins and lipophilic neuronal tracers.

The competition and equilibrium in power markets under decarbonization and decentralization

open access: yesiEnergy, 2022
Equilibrium analysis has been widely studied as an effective tool to model gaming interactions and predict market results. However, as competition modes are fundamentally changed by the decarbonization and decentralization of power systems, analysis ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Comparative evaluation of clarifying agents to improve the quality of the far long-wave ultraviolet therapy chronic dermatosis [PDF]

open access: yesСаратовский научно-медицинский журнал, 2016
Objective; to choose the optical clearing agent with the best illuminating ability in the long-wave UV spectrum used in phototherapy. Material and methods. Ex vivo skin samples were used as objects of study.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

The effects of varying in incubation time and temperature of methyl salicylate as a clearing agent on the quality of breast tissue slides

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology
Non-polar clearing agents have the ability to dissolve breast adipose tissue. While fat dissolution occurs during the clearing process, careful monitoring of adipose cell membranes mis crucial due to their impact on the behavior of breast cancer cells ...

Optical clearing potential of immersion-based agents applied to thick mouse brain sections.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
We have previously demonstrated that the use of a commercially-available immersion-based optical clearing agent (OCA) enables, within 3-6 hours, three-dimensional visualization of subsurface exogenous fluorescent and absorbing markers of vascular ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Rapid Tissue Processing Technique − An Anecdote of Methyl Salicylate

open access: yesJournal of Orofacial Sciences
Introduction: The preparation of biopsy specimens for sectioning needs to be processed by being exposed to various chemicals at varying concentrations. Rapid tissue processing (RaPT) is used to reduce the processing time by using methyl salicylate as a ...

Sonophoresis Using Ultrasound Contrast Agents: Dependence on Concentration. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Sonophoresis can increase skin permeability to various drugs in transdermal drug delivery. Cavitation is recognized as the predominant mechanism of sonophoresis.
