Expanding the Ingredient Basket in Aquaculture: Growth Performance and Feed Utilization of Australian Hybrid Abalone (Haliotis laevigata × H. rubra) Fed Methanotrophic Single Cell Protein

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
There is growing interest in the use of single cell proteins (SCPs) derived from methanotrophic bacteria for inclusion in aquafeed to reduce reliance on other, potentially less sustainable proteins. This two‐part experiment aimed to investigate first (i) the dose effect of replacing soy protein concentrate with SCP in Australian hybrid abalone diets ...

Acetate Shock Loads Enhance CO Uptake Rates of Anaerobic Microbiomes

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 17, Issue 12, December 2024.
Pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass yields syngas and an acetate‐rich wastewater. This study examined high acetate levels during syngas co‐fermentation by anaerobic microbiomes at different pHs and temperatures. Microbiomes converted syngas at 64 g/L acetate and pH 5.5. Acetate supplementation increased CO conversion rates and altered product spectrum

Challenges and recent advances in quantitative mass spectrometry‐based metabolomics

open access: yesAnalytical Science Advances, Volume 5, Issue 5-6, June 2024.
Abstract The field of metabolomics has gained tremendous interest in recent years. Whether the goal is to discover biomarkers related to certain pathologies or to better understand the impact of a drug or contaminant, numerous studies have demonstrated how crucial it is to understand variations in metabolism.

A novel experimental method to determine substrate uptake kinetics of gaseous substrates applied to the carbon monoxide‐fermenting Clostridium autoethanogenum

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 121, Issue 4, Page 1324-1334, April 2024.
This article describes a combination of static and dynamic cultivation of Clostridium autoethanogenum to study the substrate uptake kinetics of the gaseous substrate carbon monoxide. A steady‐state chemostat culture was periodically disturbed with 1‐h pulses of increased carbon monoxide partial pressures, up to 1.2 atm.

A Novel Protein Sourced from Chinese Medicine Residue for Golden Pompano Feed: Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli Residue (ECGGR)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Fishmeal is an important protein source in aquafeed. However, due to the limited natural resources, fishmeal is in short supply, resulting in a price surge for fishmeal. Here, we reported a kind of Chinese medicine residue, endothelium corneum gigeriae galli residue (ECGGR), as a fishmeal substitute in the diets of Trachinotus ovatus.

Carbon monoxide-driven bioethanol production operates via a tungsten-dependent catalyst [PDF]

open access: yes
Microbial alcohol production from waste gasses is a game changer for sustainable carbon cycling and remediation. While the biotechnological process employing Clostridium autoethanogenum to transform syngas (H2/CO2/CO) is blooming, the reactions involved ...

Integrated metabolomics and proteomics analysis to provide insights into muscle atrophy of turbot Scophthalmus maximus by dietary Clostridium autoethanogenum protein

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
Clostridium autoethanogenum protein (CAP) is a promising protein source for aquaculture. Previous studies proved that high levels of dietary CAP retarded the muscle development in turbot through mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR)/amino acid response (AAR)/adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathways.

Partial replacement of fishmeal with Clostridium autoethanogenum single‐cell protein in the diet for juvenile black sea bream ( Acanthopagrus schlegelii )

open access: yesAquaculture Research, 2019
Clostridium autoethanogenum protein (CAP) is a single‐cell protein derived from ethanol production and may have potential to become a substitute for fishmeal in aquafeeds. A 70‐day feeding trial was conducted with black sea bream (Acanthopagrus schlegelii) (mean initial weight 6.03 ± 0.09 g) to evaluate partial replacement of fishmeal with CAP in diets.

Effects of Dietary Taurine on Maturation Indices, Antioxidant Capacity, Ovaries Amino and Fatty Acids Profile, and Vitellogenin Gene Transcription Level in Penaeus vannamei Female Brooders

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
A 30‐day research was carried out to examine the impacts of dietary taurine (Tau) on ovaries maturation and physiological responses of Penaeus vannamei female brooders (29.4 ± 0.2 g). A basal diet (497 g kg−1 protein and 140 g kg−1 lipid) was administered with graded levels of Tau ranging from 0 (control) to 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 g kg−1.
