Crop Load Management in Nashi Pear—A Review

open access: yesHorticulturae, 2022
Most nashi cultivars require heavy thinning, and this has traditionally been performed by the time and labour-intensive practice of hand thinning. Crop load management is a key cost driver for nashi production, but there are limited cost-effective ...

Alfvén waves in the near-PSBL lobe: Cluster observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Electromagnetic low-frequency waves in the magnetotail lobe close to the PSBL (Plasma Sheet Boundary Layer) are studied using the Cluster spacecraft.

Quantifying clustering in disordered carbon thin films

open access: yesThin Solid Films, 2006
The quantification of disorder and the effects of clustering in the sp2 phase of amorphous carbon thin films are discussed. The sp2 phase is described in terms of disordered nanometer sized conductive sp2 clusters embedded in a less conductive sp3 matrix.

Cluster thinning, berry thinning and Gibberellic Acid application improve fruit size and consumer preference of table grapes in Iowa

open access: yes, 2004
Specialty crop growers are interested in diversifying their operations with crops that are adapted to local growing conditions and are profitable relative to other potential crops.

Cluster observations on the thin current sheet in the magnetotail [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2008
Abstract. A magnetotail event on 15 September 2001 is analyzed, during which the Cluster spacecraft observed both embedding and bifurcation of the Thin Current Sheet (TCS). It is indicated that the ion anisotropy and nongyrotropy are responsible for those new equilibrium features that represent deviations from the conventional Harris model ...

Same Season and Carry-Over Effects of Source-Sink Adjustments on Grapevine Yields and Non-structural Carbohydrates

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
The grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) is managed to balance the ratio of leaf area (source) to fruit mass (sink). Over cropping in the grapevine may reveal itself as spontaneous fruit abortion, delayed ripening, or as alternate bearing.

Simultaneous THEMIS observations in the near-tail portion of the inner and outer plasma sheet flux tubes at substorm onset [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We analyzed the measurements made by two Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms (THEMIS) probes in ideal observational conditions (quiet background, near midnight, inside the substorm current wedge) during two distinct ...

Effect of canopy management techniques on the nutritional quality of Montepulciano grapevine in Puglia (Southern Italy)

open access: yesOENO One, 2012
Aims: Tests were carried out to assess the effects of early defoliation, cluster thinning and cluster cutting on the basic and nutritional composition of musts and wines of Vitis vinifera L. cv. Montepulciano.

The Fruiting and Berry-Chemistry Responses of Zinfandel Grapes to Cluster Thinning

open access: yes, 2009
A field experiment was conducted in the Rockpile appellation of Sonoma County during 2007 and 2008. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with five replicates.

Adaptive Viticulture Strategies to Enhance Resilience and Grape Quality in Cold Climate Regions in Response to Climate Warming

open access: yesHorticulturae
Cold climate viticulture is challenged by climatic variability, including increased frost risk, shorter growing seasons, and unpredictable weather events that impact vine productivity and grape quality.
