Human herpesviruses in the pathogenesis of orbit and eye tumors: detection of herpesvirus DNA in tumor biopsies

open access: yesРоссийский офтальмологический журнал, 2018
Biopsy samples of 32 patients with uveal melanoma (10), RBL (11), orbital lymphoma (7), lacrimal gland adenomas (2), rhabdomyosarcoma of conjunctiva (2) were tested by real time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect the DNA of HSV 1, HSV 2, EBV, CMV,

Radiotherapy Enhances the Oncolytic Efficacy of the Novel Oncolytic Herpesvirus VG161 and Amplifies Its Antitumor Immunity in Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RT promotes VG161 replication in BC and its immunostimulatory transgenes expression, which is mediated by the upregulation of GADD34 and HVEM caused by RT. The combination therapy with VG161 and RT increases the abundances of tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes and elicits potent systemic antitumor immunity, thereby effectively inhibiting local tumors and ...

Loss of E3 Ubiquitin Ligase RINES via CpG Methylation Relieves Suppression of STAT3 and MYC, Facilitating Multiple Tumorigeneses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dysregulated protein modifications drive tumorigenesis. RINES, an E3 ubiquitin ligase, represses tumor cell proliferation and metastasis by facilitating RING domain‐dependent, ubiquitin–proteasome‐mediated degradation of STAT3 and MYC, which consequently restrains cancer stemness and oncogenic progression.

CMV Latent Infection Improves CD8+ T Response to SEB Due to Expansion of Polyfunctional CD57+ Cells in Young Individuals

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) latent infection has a deleterious effect on the efficacy of influenza vaccination in the elderly, suggesting that CMV restricts immunological diversity impairing the immune system functionality in old age.

BIN1 and ALDH1B1 Deficiency in Colonic Smooth Muscle Drives Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Fibrosis in Slow‐Transit Constipation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Slow‐transit constipation (STC) is a disabling motility disorder with unclear smooth‐muscle mechanisms. Spatial proteomic analysis of STC patient colon reveals both the central pathogenic role of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in STC and novel regulators of intestinal motility, BIN1 and ALDH1B1.

CMV seroconversion in pregnants and the incidence of congenital CMV infection.

open access: yesThe Turkish journal of pediatrics, 2007
In this study, it was aimed to determine the ratio of CMV seroconversion in pregnant women, the prevalence of maternal CMV infection and also the incidence of congenital CMV infection in their newborns in the Antalya region of Turkey. During a one-year period, CMV-specific IgG and IgM were determined in all (n: 1027) pregnant women admitted at 8 to 20 ...

Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...

Case of Autoimmune Haemolytic Anaemia in a One Month Old Child with Congenital Cytomegalovirus Infection (cCMV) [PDF]

open access: yesLiaquat National Journal of Primary Care
Here we report a case of congenital CMV infection with rare presentation as haemolytic anaemia in a 50-day-old infant. Clinical manifestations of our patient were pallor, jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly, and a deranged coagulation profile.

CMV in the gut: a critical review of CMV detection in the immunocompetent host with colitis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 2014
As scientific techniques for the detection of cytomegalovirus (CMV) improve, we are able to detect small amounts of CMV in the mucosal wall. As clinicians, we are unsure how to interpret the results of this novel test.
